well one gets nowhere without some goal to aim for,  some desire to be fulfilled... I'd hope that as a species we will outlive our own negatives...  and improve....

and we will treasure our home  .. rather than destroy it ..

definitely unrealistic...   BUT

wholly RATIONAL.  Thanks Amadd  Smiley

So there you go again.
I haven't done hundreds and hundreds of dives because I hate the underwater environment and have no respect for it you know.
I've also attended protest dives during the deepening of the Melbourne shipping channel which I think helped to minimise damage to an extent.

It's all very well to have a goal, but there must be some semblance of rationality within attaining that goal.

The world would need a new Hitler to the power of 1000 to stop the capitalist juggernaut, and even if this were possible, it would cause the death of billions.
So you may as well have the goal of tap dancing upon the waters of an undiscovered barrier reef on Mars.

Yes, I'm telling you to get real.
You have no influence over even 5% of the people on this forum, let alone the billions required to murder other billions in order to bring the world to a halt and hopefully save the barrier reef.

Will we destroy the barrier reef?
Personally, I'll try not to. Will you?

Don't forget that we are a part of nature also, and the reef is quite a few million yrs older than humanity.
We may not be as wise as we assume ourselves to be when considering ourselves nature's keeper.
Nature might in fact be keeping us.

Really, spot is usually exceptional and accurate with his rational and cogent arguments, taking the time to weigh up the facts and present a valid comment.  Grin

..the biggest killers of coastal coral reefs are rising water temperature and run off of chemicals such as phosphorous and man made toxins

There was an ocean research who visited AUstralia recently and claimed that if current trends continue the Great Barrier Reef will be almost gone by 2030

I cant recall the name of the researcher - I will have a look around the ether and the voidless abyss for you

Just a little stat of concern

About half the Great barrier Reef has vanished in the past 27 years

Was looking forward to the link for this...got one?

The GBR is vast and most of it is a long way offshore. Could someone please explain how some port development could affect it in any significant way?
