I predict that LABOR will lose the next Federal Election because of these two leading issues.

The Carbon Tax  is an invasive tax which has cost the whole Nation plenty and achieved nothing. The average working person does not want to hear the same tired old arguments, over how it reduces Carbon pollution the average punter thinks that is a crock.

I totally agree. Whilst I applaud Governments for reducing carbon emissions this intrusive tax, is not the way to do it and only causes our country to be uncompetitive and without any real impact on carbon emmissions here.

The Carbon Tax is a big fat balloon that the Liberals will quickly put a needle in. And deservedly so.

The other main one, are the boats up north that continue and continue to arrive uninvited to our shores. If other peoples want to emigrate here, apply to an Australian Embassy and get in the queue just like countless thousands of migrants have had to do.

Don't turn up on our doorstep with your hands out. I am totally convinced, the majority of Australians do no want this.

And further, they will tell Labor so come September.

Labor may well lose the next election
And they may well deserve it.

But the post above is a clear demonstration of just how stupid the electorate is.

It is easy to dismiss the poster above as a retard.  Which he obviously is.  But the sad bit is that you will see similar comment sin newspapers etc all around the country.

THere really are people this stupid out there.
And these people actually get a vote.!!

Just to answer your "issues".
"Boat people" are not an issue.  They are only an "issue" to racists.  And the policy response to this "issue" are essentially identical by both major parties.

And the "carbon tax" is not going anywhere.  live with it idiot.  The whole world is moving to carbon pricing - Tony will not change that.

I mean seriously - it really is about time we took the vote away from morons.

Yep these two "leaders" have definitely lowered the level of debate in the community to catastrophic degree.  But unfortunately that's what happens when there is compulsory voting and the average voter doesn't believe politics plays a role in their life.  What we end up with is every Tom dick and Harry taking sloganeering as fact, and believing all opinions, no matter how inaccurate they are, are valid.  The worst thing gillard ever did was giving legitimacy to the xenophobic opinion.  The worst thing tony ever did was open his mouth before thinking.

Sloganeering has to stop. And dumbifying issues has to stop.  Politics is meant to be academic - its the only way we can actually ever progress as a society.  And the idea that politicians should lead based on public opinion is ludicrous; the public elect people who are meant  to make the right decision, and not the publically popular one.

Yet both parties recognize it is an "issue" and are campaigning against each other to sell their version of off-shore processing and refugee reduction.

All on the advice of the panel who looked in depth at it.
Or is Air Marshall Angus Houston a racist as well in your eyes??

Both major parties have virtually identical policies retard.

Strange. India's Environmental Minister said carbon pricing 'wasn't a priority right now'.
You know India?
The 3rd worst polluter in the world?

The 3rd worst polluter in the world - that has a carbon tax.
On July 1, 2010 India introduced a nationwide carbon tax of 50 rupees per metric tonne ($1.07/t) of coal both produced and imported into India.[50] In India coal is used to power more than half of the country's electricity generation.

Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh told reporters in June 2010 that a domestic tax should come before a global carbon tax, and India has imposed one while others debate the issue

As I said - carbon pricing is here to stay.  Deniers like Abbott will not change that,

Well, it it shuts up all the het up guys like you, let's put a $1.07 per ton tax on all carbon. Like all other $1/ton 'pricing on carbon', it would be a gesture without any effect, other than preening rights at the UN. And we know that all the right-on kids like you, preening rights are priceless.

Hilarious. Alevine claims politics is meant to be academic and not sloganeering, then trots out the the biggest trendy slogans of them all: Xenophobia, racist, bigots.

But then again, those slogans are often used by trendy academic types, so he is right in a strange kind of way.

Diversity demagogues are the biggest, stupidest conformist - they want total conformity with their particular diversity fetish.

But actual diversity of opinion about their protected species? Sacre bleu!! Can't have diversity of thought. Only diversity deniers have a diverse views.

You need to look no further than the immigrant above to prove Alevine’s point.

Just think - our taxes pay for the old boy’s care.

Far cheaper to import a truckload of refugees.

After all, who ends up emptying the old boy’s colostomy bag onto his plate?

The old boy thinks the Iranian and Somali aged care staff are maitre’ds - hence the attempt at phrasebook French. Liberte, equalite, diversite.

The guy who serves up  the alt jungend’s sheisen has a PhD in bio-chemistry. He knows the score.

"Bon apetite!"

Firstly, if we are going to be accurate, they aren't slogans; they are labels.

But in reality there is nothing wrong with calling out xenophobia and bigotism when one sees it.  To claim otherwise simply because you don't like the words is just poor form.  And it is nothing more than putting shutters over your eyes. If you are being bigoted and/or xenophobic in your opinion then don't expect a person to give it legitimacy because of fear of offending.  And it isn't about being PC either; it's very simply what it is; a xenophobic argument that can of course be made given free speech, but don't expect for it to be accepted without it being called out for what it is.

And I've noticed it quite often from you Mistie. You like to pull the shutters down all the time by attemping to suggest it is somehow wrong to call someone xenophobic, for being xenophobic. Similar to how you like to call out Godwins law one too many times, to avoid having to answer a very legitimate point.

I think not.

The only hope for gillard is if she can import enough boat bludgers/lifetime labor voters in the next six months to turn the tide, she's been doing good work on that front so far but alas I don't think she will get the numbers, if only she had another term, as the leftist leaders of Europe have discovered once you import the critical mass of unemployed asylum seekers into your country a conservative government will never be voted in ever again and that is a leftys and unemployed asylum seekers wet dream come true.

Don't newcomers have to reside two years before they can apply for citizenship and then be eligible to vote?

I hope I'm not wrong?

Heard something most disturbing on this very subject this very night. It seems Labor has had another dastardly idea for helping them in an election.

Letters will be addressed not to "voters" but "persons" to enter their name on the electoral roll.

Now, is that to allow the non-eligible to vote, e.g. boatpeople?
