You have no feel for the mood of the people alevine. They do not always align their thoughts to your preferred ideal.

That is such complete nonsense. Show me where it says the majority of peple are against refugees.   Perhaps in Western Sydney, but you'll forgive me for not giving a rats arse about self-centered idiots.

you might want to point to actual polls or other data to make your point. I dont think many people at all are 'against refugees'. I suspect a lot of people however are against them rolling up on our doorstep unannounced and without our collective permission. you might want to phrase your question more accurately.

Once again demonstrating your lack of debating skills I see.  Read what Hadrian wrote.  Then read my reply. Then try again.

Oh and ps, the fact we are signatories to the refugee conventions provides any asylum seeker, on whatever mode of travel, our collective permission.

that is a simplistic understanding of our obligations and cacpacity. there is a very big difference between asylum and refugee. and as has already bene established, an awful lot of them are country shoppers, having already passed thru a number of countries to reach us. This is not a simple question. My point remains that if you want to find what australian voters believe then you have to ask the right questions.

You are as naive on this issue as dummy maqqa.  Country shoppers, no.  Seeking asylum, perfectly legal and within refugee convention.
And the convention provides a very simplistic view on our obligations.  It's the political narrative that seeks to complicate it.

Go educate yourself if you want to have a serious discussion.

the moment you presumed it was simplistic was when your credibility evaporated.

This debate has next to nothing about our obligations. it is abotu she sheer quantity of refugees our there and the compelte and total inability for use to make any significant difference.

of course NATO could invade Syria and stop the problem at the source, but you bleeding hearts dont like that option either.

The refugee convention is complicated on our obligations? how so?

As I've said before - it's time for Australia to withdraw from the UN Refugee Convention.

Or, at least we need a referendum on it (yeah, like that's ever going to happen).

The 1951 UN Refugee Convention is well past it's use by date. It was drawn up to help the many people (mainly Europeans) who were displaced by World War 2. Not the current flood of Middle Eastern country shoppers.

I'm not against the convention being reviewed, but not for the same reason you suggest in your moronic post.

O.K. alevine today CS.R. shed 152 jobs and closed its glass making factory at Ingleburn. A big factor in this was the burgeoning strain of the Carbon Tax. They will now import their glass from countries that don't have this sh.tty tax and in the meantime they will save 27 million dollars by doing so.

Unless you've been watching the news with your eyes closed and tissues stuck in your ears you would have noted just how many of our manufacturing industries have folded.

The freaking useless Carbon Tax was the last straw for many of these traditional companies. If you want more examples find them yourself, I'm not doing your bloody homework for you.

Have you got the press release that states it was the Carbon tax?

Manufacturing is folding primarily due to our inability to sell the value of an Australian product vs. the value of an Asian product and the difference in our currencies (ie, the cost of manufacturing and then exporting it due to the current Aussie Dollar is TOO HIGH).  I'm all for the reserve bank entering the currency wars. I think it's a necessity.  It's criminal to sit by and watch other countries fight tooth and nail to reduce their currency while ours remains this inflated.

As for homework - you're the one suggesting the carbon tax has added too much cost. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and OFFER EXAMPLES to SUSTAIN YOUR ARGUMENT. Otherwise don't post unfounded crap.

Labor will lose, because the voting Public are looking for someone to blame, which is generally whoever is in power & right now that's Labor.

In 3 & a bit years, it will be the Liberals & government Power will change again, because the Public will be up to their eyeballs in Economic strife and again they will want to blame whoever is in power!

IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!!!

You could be wrong, of course.

After all, how long had the Coalition lasted under Howard. . . 12 years?

And they wouldn't have lost to the mumbling, bumbling Rudd if the propaganda was so strong against Workchoices. Yep, propaganda is Labor's forte!

What is worse, work choices or no job at all (under saviour Labor?)

The only hope for gillard is if she can import enough boat bludgers/lifetime labor voters in the next six months to turn the tide, she's been doing good work on that front so far but alas I don't think she will get the numbers, if only she had another term, as the leftist leaders of Europe have discovered once you import the critical mass of unemployed asylum seekers into your country a conservative government will never be voted in ever again and that is a leftys and unemployed asylum seekers wet dream come true.

Don't newcomers have to reside two years before they can apply for citizenship and then be eligible to vote?

I hope I'm not wrong?

No I think you are right..
one of the reasons there is so much strife in Logan... no income for kiwis and Islanders for 2 yrs.. yet they let them in...  it is the responsibility of govt to put in place measures to deal with an influx,, where ever they're from.

As for the Carbon Tax?  Hasn't had any impact on my cost of living that I can separate out.. and the MINING TAX...???

to put it simplisticly..  oooh ooh  only made 26 million/....

has it occurred to you,, ??? that most of the mines in QLD  were under water from huge flooding fo a long long time...???
the Bligh and Federal Labor Govts had no choice in what the weather did... and the Miners couldn't rake in the bikkies.... 'cos it was UNDERWATER..!!
Capiche???

Do you not remember this ??  do you suppose these natural events, were the governments' fault??

In a 'normal' yr, things would have been very different..  ..

Memory is short when all one can see is $$$$ signs...

I predict that LABOR will lose the next Federal Election because of these two leading issues.

The Carbon Tax  is an invasive tax which has cost the whole Nation plenty and achieved nothing. The average working person does not want to hear the same tired old arguments, over how it reduces Carbon pollution the average punter thinks that is a crock.

I totally agree. Whilst I applaud Governments for reducing carbon emissions this intrusive tax, is not the way to do it and only causes our country to be uncompetitive and without any real impact on carbon emmissions here.

The Carbon Tax is a big fat balloon that the Liberals will quickly put a needle in. And deservedly so.

The other main one, are the boats up north that continue and continue to arrive uninvited to our shores. If other peoples want to emigrate here, apply to an Australian Embassy and get in the queue just like countless thousands of migrants have had to do.

Don't turn up on our doorstep with your hands out. I am totally convinced, the majority of Australians do no want this.

And further, they will tell Labor so come September.

Labor may well lose the next election
And they may well deserve it.

But the post above is a clear demonstration of just how stupid the electorate is.

It is easy to dismiss the poster above as a retard.  Which he obviously is.  But the sad bit is that you will see similar comment sin newspapers etc all around the country.

THere really are people this stupid out there.
And these people actually get a vote.!!

Just to answer your "issues".
"Boat people" are not an issue.  They are only an "issue" to racists.  And the policy response to this "issue" are essentially identical by both major parties.

And the "carbon tax" is not going anywhere.  live with it idiot.  The whole world is moving to carbon pricing - Tony will not change that.

I mean seriously - it really is about time we took the vote away from morons.

Yet both parties recognize it is an "issue" and are campaigning against each other to sell their version of off-shore processing and refugee reduction.

All on the advice of the panel who looked in depth at it.
Or is Air Marshall Angus Houston a racist as well in your eyes??

Strange. India's Environmental Minister said carbon pricing 'wasn't a priority right now'.
You know India?
