True, but the main issue is trust. JuLiar killed off a first term, demokratically elected PM.
And the Labor brand is completely on the nose - in NSW, anyway. Craig Thomson, Eddie Obeid, the whole greasy lot of them.
Surely people aren't stupid enough to believe Tony Abbott will single-handedly stop the boats, fix the budget or even axe the tax. They're merely voting for him because he's not Labor and he's just saying he'll do all these things.
No one's really warming to Abbott, but I predict he'll get an easy ride on boat-stopping and the budget. He'll come in, blame it all on Labor, and continue promising, spending and taking in refugees as normal.
All Abbott has to do is appear to be trustworthy. If I was him I'd be promising as little as possible and keeping mum - which is pretty-much what he's doing anyway. That, and let the rest of the attack-dogs do the dog-whistling about behaviour protocols and all the rest - none of it to be implemented as policy.
None of it - direct action, the Pacific Solution, running a surplus - how can they? They're not workable solutions, and they contradict each other. Direct action is too expensive, there's no cost-cutting plan, and the Pacific Solution is dead in the water.
The people will vote for Abbott merely for saying these things, but he won't be doing any of them. Abbott will continue to blame Labor for most of his first term, just as he's done in opposition. At some point, he'll need to find his groove. No one knows what that will be - especially Abbott.
