If you are under 27 you are yet to experience a below average summer.

This was the hottest summer on record. But what makes it more exceptional is that it was not an El Niņo year.

"So the fact that we've got such a hot summer without having an El Nino makes it in some ways even more exceptional."

Penny Whetton, a senior climate research scientist with the CSIRO, says the fact that it was not an El Nino year is significant.

"It just underlines that it's much easier, so to speak, for the climate to give us a hot year than what it used to be in the past," she said.

"It really just shows that the potential for us to get really warm conditions has increased.

"The effect of that is that we can get very warm years now without one of the factors that can contribute to warmth being in place, and that is El Nino conditions. I think that is actually quite significant. "

If you are under 5000 your still going to be right.
What's your point?

My point is that we are experiencing a rapid shift in our climate that can only be explained by rising atmospheric CO2. A very important driver of climate change in the past. Unless we reduce the amount of CO2 we are spewing into the atmosphere we are going to experience a rather uncomfortable climate shift.

from a purely logical point of view that is an epic failure. That argument assumes you know all the drivers of climate and very obviously we dont.

it is also an epic fail from basic science which has demonstrated that while CO2 can be a minor driver of  warming it is mainly a following INDICATOR that warming has happened.

And since we have only just realised that what we understand about solar radiant forcing has been basically completely wrong perhaps we should hold off on blaming CO2 until we actually DO understand the role the sun has been playing - especially since any increase in temperature would always cause you to look at solar activity first.

What drivers then, Longy. We know it's not the sun.

You have claimed that the IPCC, NASA and the UK MET have all claimed that there has been no global warming for 17 years.

Why do you run away every time you are asked for evidence of this?
You have given us the old standard liar response:

"it has been quoted several times"

No it hasn't liar.  If it had - I wouldn't be asking.

All you have shown us is an article from The Australian which paraphrases the head of the IPCC saying the exact opposite of what you claim.

You have claimed that the IPCC, NASA and the UK MET have all claimed that there has been no global warming for 17 years.

Show us the evidence of this or please apologise for telling lies.

You really need to realise that you cannot just tell lies like this.  For a start - you are really bad at it.  You get caught every time - and this childish running away you do is just pathetic.  Don't you think it is time you grew up a bit and tried telling the truth for a change?

No - not quite.

the last 2 summers were cool in Australia - due to the extreme La Nina, but 2009/10 was warmer than average.

However globally - MOTR is absolutely correct.

If you are under 27 - you have never lived through a month with below average temperatures globally.

November 2012 also marks the 36th consecutive November and 333rd consecutive month with global temperature higher than the long-term average. The last month with a below average temperature was February 1985, nearly 28 years ago.

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2012/11

ANd the last year where the average global temperature had an negative annual temperature anomaly was 1976!

...

THis is because the planet is warming.
Despite what your mate at the Daily Mail writes in his columns - the planet is warming, it has been warming for the past 17 years - and beyond.

And - The IPCC says this. NASA says this.  And the UK MET says this - despite the lies that your make Longweekend keeps telling

the Planet is warming.

To deny this is really stupid.
To deny this based on a column you read in the Daily Mail is simply retarded.

I see we are arguing over 0.1 of a degree with temperature data dating back to the 1800's

How accurate are temperature readings and how accurate were the readers?

I see you still have not told us why you claimed that the IPCC, the UK MET and NASA have "confirmed" there has been "no warming for 17 years"

Please show use evidence of this.  Or apologise for lying to the forum.

Simple cut and paste will do.

Show us where the IPCC, the UK MET and NASA have "confirmed" there has been "no warming for 17 years".

The author was caught out misrepresenting a scientific paper's position on global warming and sea level rises not that long ago. The same author paraphrased the UN's climate chief rather than providing his readers with a direct quote in the article you posted. Is that the article you are hanging your position on?

No.  You haven't posted any article which shows that  "the IPCC, the UK MET and NASA have "confirmed" there has been "no warming for 17 years".

All you have posted is a piece from a very unreliable source, where the journalist provides no actual quotes from anyone.  Despite this - what he does actually say is that Pachuri, upon acknowleding taht there has been a pause in the rise of maximun surface air temperatures, he said it would need to last "30 to 40 years at least" to break the long-term global warming trend.

Even the journalist form The Australian did not  claim that "the IPCC, the UK MET and NASA have "confirmed" there has been "no warming for 17 years".

Yet you are lying and saying that he did!

Is this all you have?  This piece from The Australian with no actual quotes?

Is this all you are basing your lie: "the IPCC, the UK MET and NASA have "confirmed" there has been "no warming for 17 years". on?!?!?

I think it is about time you apologised for telling lies.  You really are a disgrace.  Your mother would be ashamed.

Maqqa rarely has any real proof for most of his claims which isn't a shock when we consider that he thinks its fine to treat the Earths atmosphere as an open sewer.
I wonder what he's going to tell his Grand kids when they ask him what side he was on?
