The easiest way to get around needing a spellcheck is to be able to spell and formulate sentences in the first place.

Old fashioned I know, but there you have it.

It seems to work OK for me.

And I always give each post a quick proof-read before hitting 'send'.

A hang-over from my days working as a printer.

There is a 3rd party app for internet explorer that does spell checking.

http://www.download.com/ieSpell/3000-12512_4-10208550.html

(I do not make any guarantees about it.)

Well done, FD!

And, IF Longweekend ever actually starts regularly using the facility, then it will all have been worth the effort?

I always put it down to a myriad of dead brain cells, that would account for  his thoughts as well.

For those using IE.....

Google Toolbar has a spell-checker that seems to work OK.

It spell-checks in Seppolian (American), but could help avoid some of the more major howlers.

And yes, the spell-checker here seems to be working, it certainly picked 'Seppolian'
as a mis-spelling (it's not). It picked 'mis-spelling', too, and it isn't, either. Worked
if I removed the hyphen, which is incorrect.

Amen to that.  Shites me.

you know at the end of the day American spelling makes more sense than what we have..

well I think so.

Agree cods, we seem to stick extra vowels in for no apparent reason.

labour....labor

Who wouldn't spell gaol.....jail?

check for cheque

perhaps its time when they add new words to the dictionary they also have a look at our spelling..I mean for really poor spellers.. even looking up the word can be difficult..

why is phantom spelt ph
and fathom. with an f?

Well,  its a bit complicated... but as I understand it,,...
(a brief offering)
English was not the 'language of Law' for a long period in English history.

FRENCH became the replacement for Latin, in early English lore.

At the time the Pilgrims headed off to the New World.(umm that is a generalisation, and I'm drawing on old learning...) French had not gained that eminence in English affairs.

So..the spelling used by US English, is closer to the original language, than is the language and the spelling we prefer.... those extra vowels are french.

True... AND,,, some spelling of English were influenced by the first noted Dictionary of English... no I don't remember the details,, BUT... the chap who put together this English dictionary,  arbitrarily added letters,  or removed them, depending on whether or not there was a gap in the text, or not.  No  Not Webster,  some other dude. !!
So it is no wonder that for non-english speakers,  there is often no logic to interpretation.  Poor Buggers. Smiley

Quite so Hicks.  Seems we don't disagree on everything.!! Smiley

But you see?? don't you?? ...these people have not had sufficient education in language. They can't even spell their own.. As Cods says,,  it's too late !!
...for their brains....
