It probably has a built in spellcheck also. What you described sounds just like firefox's.

ok, but I wonder what's wrong with cods' spellcheck? It seems like lots of posters don't have a functional spellcheck or maybe they just ignore the errors. Not that I care, there isn't one poster that I can't comprehend.

Remember that weird paragraph of writing without the vowels that was doing the rounds? most people could read it.

I suspect internet explorer does not have a spellcheck, so people use the forum's instead. I still haven't had a chance to look into it.

what is the go with spell check???.. its a tough ask to ask us to manage without it after all this time.. I am so used to it my brain is now switched off..

why worry about spelling when its done for me..

come on FD its too late for me to change

Doiesnt iet werk ??? Grin Grin.

I am doing okay.. just get sloppy on the keyboard thats all..and it helps

I do have another way of checking thanks to my 8 yr old grandson..

its ok for all those that have nothing better to do than rubbish people.. I have never denied being computer illiterate...doesnt bother me at all....

I just do not believe anyone on here doesnt use it........but too cowardly to own up...

I wasn't having a go at you, cods, It was a joke. Nor do I deny having spellcheck but I mostly use an iPad nowadays and it has an automatic spellcheck. Having it automatically spell check for you is even worse than spelling it wrong sometimes. It often tries to second guess what you are writing so you end  with plenty of errors. But to me the thing I hate most is Yankee spelling for the spell check which I am forever trying to correct.

so I have heard... and lets face it its taking over our thinking...some words have more than one spelling as they have meaning..are we not losing something in this???... btw I know you werent having a go it was someone else..its about the only time he has anything to say to me is to have a go..if I am in a bad mood I bite... when its hot I growl...

my whinge about spellcheck is we did without it...then we get it, like it or not...I mean who can avoid those red lines????

and then we become totally dependent on it..and fall apart when its out of order..I have a trick though my 8 year old grandson showed me..
point to the word and hit the right click on mouse..it does of course only do one word at a time.. but thats all this smarty pants needs..LOL.. just kidding.

Agree cods, we seem to stick extra vowels in for no apparent reason.

labour....labor

Who wouldn't spell gaol.....jail?

It's not just the supposedly uneducated who get it wrong, either....

Just watching the 'Surplus' story on Channel 7, and they have their
little crawler/info block at the bottom of the screen.

Proudly proclaiming the ..... wait for it...
'DEFECIT'
.

Actually, if you keep an eye out for them, these crawlers often contain
some classic 'howlers'.

Like the 'Shock
EXIST
' (exit?) of an AGT contestant.....

But, to REALLY stuff-up......"

Yes, it's true, but it can be amusing spotting the 'spellos' on TV.

Some of the 'el-cheapo' commercials have some good howlers in them as well.

It looks like the spellcheck is not going to be fixed any time soon.

In the meantime, I recommend using a browser that has a built-in spellcheck.

The easiest way to get around needing a spellcheck is to be able to spell and formulate sentences in the first place.

Old fashioned I know, but there you have it.
