Went Khawaja, I think he is technically more sound.

Not sure if you need Hughes and Warner in the same team?

Hughes has gone back and done what was asked, make runs. So wouldn’t be surprised if he gets the nod.

Feel sorry for Quiney, but we need to blood younger players against Sri Lanka.

Good to se Callum Ferguson fit, if not for his knee injury i believe he would have kept his spot in the line up.

I look at Hughes like Michael Bevan.  Bevan should have played alot more Test cricket but missed out because of  a perceived weakness against pace / short pitched bowling which is similar to Hughes (mainly West Indians).

Bevan got caught alot (more than normal) in the slips / gully region much like Hughes.

Khawaja has been going well but he also looked brittle in his short stint in Tests

Hughes Tests AVR 34.5 & 3 x 100s
           First Class AVR 45.52 20 x 100s

Khawaja Tests AVR 29.22 0 x 100s
            First Class 43.03 & 11 x 100s

Yeah, I fell sorry for Quiney, used as a stop-gap for Watson and I don’t think we’ll see him again. But you could argue that he was picked ahead of the others, so why not give him a decent crack at it.

By all accounts it looks like Hughes is the man, I hope he does well.

I’d be inclined to go..

1. Watson – Averages way higher opening.
2. Cowan
3. Hughes
4. Clarke
5. Warner – Too hit and miss at the top for me
6. Hussey
7. Wade

Ponting was always the 'baby' of the Golden Era of Australian Cricket ever since it was ushered in by Reid, Jones & Matthews under Border.

Kinda ironic that he stuck around so long to be the 'old man' of the team and it was nearly a case of who you know in him going on the Ashes for one last tour and pushing another personal record for his name. Wink

A great player who showed the last remaining 'ashes' of what that Golden Era was about.

I don't think anyone should REPLACE Ponting.
I think all players should just be 'themselves' for win or loss.
I mean - what player would wanna stick around for so long anyway Cheesy Tongue Grin
