EnVen Energy Ventures of Metairie, La. Company spokesman David Blackmon has reported that the flow from the well has “significantly diminished.”

According to Blackman, the leak from the wild well consists mainly of water and sand, with “just a trace” of natural gas.

Friday’s cold temperatures are blamed for inspectors not going out sooner, officials say.

A spokeswoman for the environmental department, Eileen Angelico, said water temperatures in the Gulf were too cold Friday for the agency to send its own officials out to inspect the scene.

Another platform producing oil and gas near the EnVen rig also was shut down as a precaution.

Workers last night cut in half the flow of natural gas from the ”out-of-control well” drilled by Rowan Companies Plc in the Gulf of Mexico off Louisiana’s coast, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

“Responders still continue to control the flow,” Petty Officer Bill Colclough said today, indicating, according to Bloomberg, liquid natural gas is flowing.

He did not give an estimate on the rate of methane gas and fluid flowing from the well.

The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, that which oversees offshore drilling, is monitoring the crisis.

Offshore oil and gas drilling work has been under closer scrutiny since the blowout of BP Plc’s Macondo well in April 2010 killed 11 workers and set off a oil volcano that continued to flow and foul thousands of square miles, that shut much of Gulf’s fishing, killed and untold number of people and left an untold thousands sick from BP’s oil and Nalco’s Corexit.

Methane gas is spewing near Louisiana’s coast as workers battle to kill an out-of-control well. Air-lifted evacuations of all non-essential personnel have been conducted and Coast Guard HU-25 crews are responding. The oil rig and platform are in the Gulf Of Mexico area connected to the New Madrid Falt Complex.

The operator, EnVen, reported it was drilling from its jack-up rig called the Rowan Louisiana when the well began flowing gas, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. (BSEE)

Essential personnel are battling to kill the out-of-control well, according to the BSEE.

The out-of-control Rowan Louisiana rig is in Vermillion Block 356, near Louisiana’s coast and the BP-wrecked Macondo Prospect, around 108 miles southwest of Lafayette.



Officials say no injuries or pollution have been reported.

The Coast Guard reported by midday Friday that  the well leak has been cut in half.

The rig was drilling 256 feet down.

EnVen Energy Ventures, LLC, an oil and gas exploration and development services company, a subsidiary of Palm Energy Partners, LLC, is operating the rig. 

“The Captioned well has been directionally drilled to an objective on SM 166 from the VR 356 A Platform. Logging while drilling tools indicated the presence of two gas zones at 1340 feet [measured depth] MD and 1,830 feet MD, both of which were anticipated in the well construction plan which was approved,” stated EnVen’s Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Garrett, to Rigzone. 

“At 2,217 feet MD, a routine wiper trip was conducted, pulling the drill string back up inside the 13-3/8-inch casing with the bit at 1,140 feet MD (77 feet inside the 13-3/8”). With bit inside casing, a routine circulation was commencing when the well began to flow.”

The well was reportedly put on a diverter system for formation fluids to vent overboard while working to get the well killed.

“The well continues to flow through the diverter system while efforts kill the well continue.”

BSEE added that the adjacent platform was producing oil and gas and was shut-in.

The Coast Guard sent an HU-25 Falcon crew from Corpus Christi to assess the scene, and noted that it has not yet received a request for assistance from anyone in the Gulf.

“All nonessential personnel were evacuated from the rig. Thus far, there have been no personnel incidents or accidents and no pollution as the flow is natural gas/water/sand,” Garrett added.

BSEE will investigate the incident, it stated in a press release.



The rig has been drilling into a fault area that intersects with the infamous New Madrid complex.

Since at least 2005, it’s been known that drilling into the Gulf of Mexico salt domes where quakes, have already been recorded, with a 6.0 further south in the fault area, poses a risk of a Louisiana methane leak and explosion.

February 2, 2014 -- (TRN) -- A seismometer inside a borehole at Yellowstone National Park has begun reporting staggering underground activity near the southwest corner of Yellowstone Lake, possibly signaling the beginning of an eruption of the Super Volcano at the Yellowstone National Park. TRN has obtained the image of the Seismograph report and now YOU can see it for yourself!  This could be very nasty. . .

Yellowstone lake is pretty much the center of what is the Yellowstone Caldera; the mouth of a massive Super Volcano, located beneath the park.

The activity began around 12:00 Noon, Mountain Standard Time (MST) on February 1, and was detected by a seismometer in Borehole B944 then continued, non-stop, all day yesterday getting worse and worse as the hours wore on.  The activity is continuing right now at 6:06 EST AM as this news article is being produced.

The map below shows the location of Borehole B944 in relation to Yellowstone Lake and the rest of the park.



The readings being reported from seismometer inside Bore Hole #B944 are literally "off-the-scale." Is an earthquake brewing, or is this the beginning of a catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone "Super Volcano?"

Salvation Army officers allegedly moved interstate if accused of child sex abuse

An inquiry into Salvation Army boys homes has been told officers were quickly moved to other states if they were accused of child sexual abuse.

The Alkira Salvation Army Home for Boys at Indooroopilly in Queensland is one of four homes being examined by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Marina Randall and her husband Cliff worked as "house parents" in the home between 1973 and 1975.

Major Randall has recalled arriving at her accommodation in 1973.

"It just looked as if it had been left in a hurry. Things weren't the way you might normally expect if it had been a relaxed leaving," she said.

It was previously the home of Major Donald Schultz, who is accused of sexually abusing boys.

The hearing has been told he was quickly transferred to New South Wales when the boys came forward.

Mr Shultz is alive and his wife, who holds a power of attorney for him, has been provided notice of the hearing.

He was dismissed from the Salvation Army in 2005 and is now in a nursing home with dementia.

Boys allegedly flown interstate for sex

Lawyers have asked for more information about reports that boys were flown between New South Wales and Queensland for sexual exploitation.

Cliff Randall has told the hearing he was approached by a boy in 1975, who reported being flown from Brisbane to Sydney.

His fare was allegedly paid by a man described as a millionaire hardware store owner.

Major Randall says he was told the boy was sexually abused by a Sydney chef, before being forced to hitchhike home.

The boy told Major Randall he was abused by a truck driver on the journey.



Cliff Randall says another boy known as HT never returned to Alkira, prompting him to raise concerns with a policeman who said the boy was "probably at the bottom of the harbour".

"It was one of those sort of throw-away lines," Major Randall told the hearing.

"It startled me at first to think that this poor kid could have been killed because of what he got involved in."

Counsel representing the state of Queensland, David Kent QC, has asked for further information about Cliff Randall's contact with police.

"Did it seem to you to be a dismissive comment or perhaps a genuine concern by the police officer?" he asked.

Cliff Randall agreed it was dismissive.

He has described the policeman as being a uniformed officer working at the local Indooroopilly police station.

Counsel Representing the Salvation Army, Trish McDonald SC, has also questioned Mr Randall about the reports from the boy.

Referring to the boy's reported absence between March and June 1975, Ms McDonald asked whether "the police believed he was still there, and his fare to Sydney was provided by some male prostitute with whom it is believed he is still associating".

"That's possible, yes," Cliff Randall responded.

The inquiry was previously told that boys at the Bexley Boys Home in Sydney were "rented out" for sex as part of a paedophile network allegedly involving Salvation Army Captain Lawrence Wilson, but the two cases have not been linked.

Wilson died in 2008.
