Aussie sheep tortured to death in Pakistan.

Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig has defended the live export trade in the face of reports that Australian sheep have been clubbed, stabbed and buried alive during a brutal culling of animals in Pakistan.

As fresh calls are made for the trade to be phased out and banned, Mr Ludwig says the live export trade is an important trade and new animal welfare controls are working.

The Karachi edition of The International News reports a video has emerged showing Australian sheep being killed in a brutal and inhumane way.

The report by M. Waqar Bhatti reads: ''Like a giant mass of wool, bloodied and filthy, they lay in trenches - slit open, stabbed or clubbed to death, while many still wriggled with some life left in them, soon to be buried alive.''

Ludwig has to go...Gillard must act now and ban all live animal exports from Australia.
If she does not, then she stands condemned!

From Indonesia, to the Middle East, and now Pakistan.

All our poor cattle and sheep...how much longer must they suffer being tortured to death in the Muslim world before they're saved from the horrors they endure on the ships and at their final destinations?

its so barbaric. what surprises me is they worship the cow how can that be when other animals are treated so appalling..

the govt did stop the live animals to Indonesia and look what happened there??????

I think we need to send our own vets or whatever to these countries and show them how it should be done..they usually employ the lowest of workers because they wont pay decent money...so why should they care.. its a catch 22 we need their business but we also need to be in charge when they arrive and until they are slaughtered.

I cant bear to think of what happens to them..we cant just keep turning a blind eye I agree.

Why can't the animals be humanely killed here and transported by ship in refridgerated containers? It would also negate the possibility of live animals contracting disease during the long voyages abroad.

they would like to kill them themselves... and I guess thats their right if WE want to do business with them then its for us to find an answer to this..

these countries are huge business for us..if we take a do as I say moral high ground I am sure it will come back and bite us.

we did do something about the shipping of these animals and the last I heard we sere sending a vet on board the ships as well..

not good enough I know but better than it was..
