Got my first leccy bill since the Carbon Tax
Sep 21st, 2012 at 3:00pm

Barely noticeable among the normal fluctuations (seasonal use differences, number of people in the house etc) of the yearly bill cycle. The last test of the dreaded Carbon tax Apocalypse, the point where the doom was to finally be brought home has fizzled out again. No wonder the people are turning against Abbott; the boy who cried wolf..

And the Reserve Bank agrees, the carbon tax has had ZERO infaltionary effect on the economy!

Quote:
The federal government says the minutes of the latest Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) board meeting have exposed Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's deceptive scare campaign against Labor's carbon tax.

The RBA on Tuesday released the minutes from its September 4 board meeting on monetary policy.

"The introduction of the carbon price had not yet had a significant effect on downstream price pressures," the minutes state.

"There was no evidence the carbon price had raised medium-term inflation expectations."

Climate Change Minister Greg Combet said the minutes proved the opposition leader had been trying to mislead the public.

"Mr Abbott said the carbon price would lead to 'unimaginable' increases in the cost of living, but now the carbon price is in the RBA says there is no evidence of any significant inflationary impact," Mr Combet told AAP in a statement.

"Mr Abbott has no credible policy to tackle climate change and has been exposed for running a destructive and deceptive scare campaign."

The climate change minister insisted Labor was taking economically responsible action to tackle climate change.

Householders were being looked after with tax cuts, pension increases and higher family benefits, Mr Combet said.

Labor made further gains on the coalition in two opinion polls out this week as anger over the carbon tax waned and Liberal state budget cuts have rebound on Mr Abbott.

Exactly. These leftards are dumb, Bigol64. How can they not notice the phenomenal rise in their bills?

And it's not just electricity bills, it's everything. I heard on Alan that prices are going to rise 180% - across the board.

It's clear: The economy just can't sustain the carbon tax. Mr Abbott will have to try to do something about it.

The heading is about his electricity bill. The post is about his electricity bill. Seems a pretty close match to me. Should there have been more? Less?

My first electricity bill post carbon tax was way down on last years for the same period. I'm sure it was misread, but I'm not complaining.

I know cods, and pumpkin $4 a kilo, frekkin pumpkin, throw some seeds in the ground and they'll grow like weeds.

It's inflation and the prices will keep going up and up. The rising cost of living. I don't actually see many people buying those expensive veges though, they must be learning to live without them. We're lucky in that we have a wide range so we can still get some cheap fruit and veges, even if they're not our preferred variety.

'Unfair' power price rises under review

Date
    September 22, 2012

MANY households are being overcharged for electricity, the consumer watchdog suspects.     Sad

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is investigating the legality of contracts some households have signed with their power supplier.

It wants to know whether consumers are enduring unjustified price rises.

Under contracts many households have signed, there is a clause allowing the company to raise prices whenever it wishes.     Sad

Sometimes price rises may be justified but the ACCC has received a rising number of complaints about unjustified rises.

''We are investigating the issue,'' its chairman, Rod Sims, said. ''We will take note of how companies are passing through higher costs.''

Referring to the need to pass on changes in network charges - which rise as part of a regular government review, and which are automatically passed on to all customers - Mr Sims said: ''We have no problem with contracts allowing retailers to vary their price.

''There are some contracts which give the right to increase prices for any reason. We are looking to see if this can be an 'unfair contract' which is not allowed under the law.     Shocked

''Much depends on how this clause is used. If it is used to recoup the original discounted offer, we would be concerned. It has been brought to our attention, with a number of complaints.''

As part of the investigation, the watchdog is also looking at the lack of transparency with some price rises.

With more and more families on individual contracts, they often have no way of knowing whether a decision by their electricity company to raise charges midway through a contract is valid or not.     Sad

This could result in electricity companies having to advertise planned price rises.

For the consumer group Choice, the way households have become locked into electricity contracts with their supplier free to raise prices is similar to banks blocking customers on variable mortgages from moving to cheaper lenders, which has now been banned.

''How meaningful is the contract if the retailer has the discretion to raise prices at any time?'' Matt Levey from Choice said.

''You sign up to get 10 per cent off, yet they can raise the prices at any time - and charge you a fee if you move.''     Sad

Electricity companies point to the record number of households changing supplier as proof of increasing competition.

''Switching doesn't necessarily have positive outcomes for consumers,'' Mr Levey said. Following recent steep power price rises, Choice has launched a campaign, Take the Power Back, urging consumers to write to their state and federal energy minister seeking reform.

We might have to go frozen with the veges cods. I've heard that NZ get the veg from China then package them, so country of origin could be wrong, not sure. I'm over trying to find out where foodstuffs originate. I haven't got food poisoning yet, so I'm not all that worried now.

Aldi are still cheapest supermarket in town, far cheaper than the big two. They've had 250g punnets of strawberries, big dark red, delicious strawbs for $1 for weeks now. The next cheapest I have seen was $1.50, that doesn't look like much, but it's a 50% mark up.

Remember when we could eat the cheapest mince meat? now it's only fit for animal food. You'd have to cook it for a week to get the fat out before it could be used for human consumption.
