What the hell were they doing? Hitler wouldn't have used that much gas in a year.

Thats more than double our gas bill and my missus runs the gas heating like she wants a summer heatwave for 12 mths of the year

They're probably silver spooners, I've seen them leave the sprinkler on 24/7, no matter that we're in a drought. They waste valuable resources because they can.

Oh yes, only silver spooners can and do waste water.

What a wank of a comment. Roll Eyes

Average wage earners can't afford to, so yes the wealthy are wasters.

Water costs sweet FA brains. Roll Eyes

Dont drag it off topic.

The starting post is how bills are not an issue.

I have here in front of me a gas bill for July 5 - Aug 31 for $774.
Now you tell me there isn't a significant cost there?

Small increase in power usage, bill up by nearly 50% for me.

Don't know what is to blame but it is a dam big increase.

Ah! I see what's happening here, the rightards are getting billed twice as much as the lefties.

I'm waaaaay left and my bill was lower than it has been for years (sssshhhh!!!!! don't tell the leccy company.....they misread the metre)

Just stating it like it is, nothing more.

All the building work we are having done on our place on the south coast is costing no more after the carbon tax so I cant see the issue.
In fact the housing slowdown means we have tradies lining up to do the work where as this time last year it was the opposite..good for consumers and good for employers.

I have no idea but like I said..my missus wants to live in a perpetual summer and our bill is less than half that.
Maybe you're tenants never leave the house and leave the gas on flat out 24/7..?

Because they used an awful lot of gas?

or they have a gas leak which could turn out to be seriously dangerous.

WELL, he's just as big FOOL as YOU are
And just as much money to burn - it would seem - in heating a VERY LARGE old house
( ... probably lacking basic insulation)
in its entirety to a balmy 24 degrees, 24/7, all the Melbourne winter long

What a MASSIVE personal emissions foot-print
He SHOULD be paying more for the indulgence - and NOT be compensated

I'VE never had a gas bill of $700
I've never HEARD of anyone getting a gas bill of $700

We mix in VERY DIFFERENT CIRCLES

( ... I don't rub shoulders with "the rich" so much these days)

Right. So turn it over and tell us how the same bill from the same quarter in the previous year was.

Running a family home.
I have a copy of the bill.
The supply period is July 5 - Aug 31.

Total including GST $774.19

How many MJ's are they consuming in that period and how much is it per MJ?

Yup. The impost of the carbon price to consumers is so small as to be well within the range of normal price fluctuations, hence why it has had ZERO inflationary pressure on the economy thusfar Smiley

Compared to how much for the same quarter last year? I'm guessing no less than $640. I'm sure an extra $0.75 out of the daily budget is really breaking the proverbial camels back for your poor tenants, huh?  Roll Eyes

$710 for one quarter of gas.
That's alright is it?

my son and family had an elec bill for $800 they have wood heating wood he goes out and collects and chops himself.. so lighting and water...everyone out all day..go figure.

I have been told that sometime they guess what the bill will be?

you would think in this day and age we had something we could read ourselves...and work out how much we are heading for??.

after all we know when we need petrol for the car.

for me even reading the bloody bill is almost impossible.

Have they got a huge in-ground swimming pool? running the filter for eight hours a day will chew it up. People I know that have pools have cut down to four hours a day.

I can't really think of anything else that would get you an $800 bill. That's....like....humungous!
