The food and non-alcoholic beverages group rose in the June quarter 2012. The main contributors to the rise were vegetables (+5.2%), fruit (+3.8%), snacks and confectionery (+3.2%) and take away and fast foods (+1.0%).
The rise in vegetable and fruit prices was mainly due to cooler weather conditions with rain and flooding affecting crops in the eastern states
. This rise was partially offset by falls in cakes and biscuits (-2.8%), bread (-3.1%) and other food products n.e.c. (-2.6%).

Over the twelve months to the June quarter 2012, the food and non-alcoholic beverages group fell 3.2%

sounds wonderful and lucky you.. that has all gone by the wayside on this side of the continent..we have whats called markets in ACT but in fact they are just shops.. and in most cases their fruit and veggies are dearer than anywhere else..why would you bother? but people still do thinking is fresher than anywhere else... ha,ha..

organic again costs the earth here..sad really because its the only thing that has any flavor as far as I am concerned..however as I say I dont even look...its too depressing..

as pansi says half the frozen doesnt come from where they claim it does.. dont know about anyone else but the thought of veggies being grown in sewage farms.. is a proper turn off for me..and thats where they grow in China..

Don't do it cods, fast food has no food value, it's full of trans fats, it will shorten your life. It's ok for an occasional treat???? but don't make a habit of it.

Buy a loaf of grain bread, vegemite and a block of cheese, that's lunch for a week and much better for you and probably cheaper than seven happy meals.

I do a mental costing of each meal as I am cooking
It usually comes out at around $2 for a gourmet grade, "all you can eat" sized serve

( ... the same serve of junk food is THREE to FOUR TIMES the cost)

I know Cods struggles with basic comprehension sometimes but I thought this had been explained to her several times .... tomatoes are a summer fruit ... it is not summer therefore the only fresh tomatoes are those that have been in deep freeze (not very fresh) or those grown in green houses (limited) ... hence prices go UPPPPP .... wait a few more months ...

No, it's absurd. Either you're telling porkies or your tenants need to learn how to better manage their gas consumption. Either way, the issue isn't the total amount but rather the difference for what they would have paid for the same gas during the same quarter in the previous year. The fact of the matter is that, at most, the carbon tax might have added $70 or so to their quarterly bill (probably much less seeing as we're talking about gas rather than electricity). And if they are people who are earning enough to not warrant compensation (as I'm assuming that's what you are insinuating with your following post) then I hardly think an additional $0.75 on top of their daily budget is exactly breaking the bank. Do you?
