  • There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead

And that is what we have.  No tax.  A price on carbon with a 3 year fixed price period.

There was always going to be a  floating price on the carbon price after the 3 year fixed price period.

They said they would seek to negotiate the potential closure of up to 2000 megawatts of high pollution electricity generation capacity if it was value for taxpayers money.  But it isn't  value for taxpayers money.

those numbers are probably more trustworthy than any spin as they represent the combined knowledge of the "pure market"  thats actually a lot better for tony than i would have expected.  those are black caviar odds.  tone is the new black caviar of australian politics.  julia (the chestnut mare) is going to have to do be ridden hard with the whip to get anywhere near him at those figures

  • nearly 900 megawatts of high polluting brown coal electricity capacity in the economy has been mothballed and shutdown just in recent weeks. That’s the reality. That’s emissions gone out of the system. That’s almost of the half of the amount that we said we would talk about in Contracts for Closure but we haven’t had to pay for that to happen. The market’s looking after it because there is a carbon price in place. And it’s the same across all the parts of the economy that have a carbon price liability. They will reduce their emissions because they’ve got a price incentive to do so now. You can cut your carbon price liability if you can find ways to reduce your emissions.

I think Black Caviar would be able to answer interviewer's questions a bit more intelligently.

Pardon me, I've been asleep for 3 years because I thought it had only been one month or so since the carbon dioxide tax was forced upon us.
