She is comparing our workforce to that of African slave labour and the land of Blood Diamonds.
We all know this came about because of the recent mass murder of striking miners in South Africa by corrupt police and she wet her pants at the prospect of being able to do the same thing here.
Why didnt she bring up the working conditions of miners in first world countries?.

Gina forgets to mention the multi national mining companies lining up to invest in this country rather than having to deal with corrupt African govts and the problems of poverty and disease, tribal warlords and their private armies, growing terrorism, kidnapping and extortion ..the list goes on forever.
$2 a day is just a tiny part of the story of Africa so why didnt Gina tell us the whole story in her speech?

what will probably happen is that , particularly in mining, they will simply try to automate nearly everytbing. it probably doesnt take a very big workforce to run a mine , once it i up and running.

i see a doctor in central qld who wanted to take on a locum to deal with the extra workload the mines have caused had to rent a house at $2000 a week to find accomodation for said locum. cant see why we cant make mine operators responsible for some of these infrastructure and disruption costs.
