No one died at sea or in detention centres during the entire duration of the Pacific Solution. Around 1,000 have died at sea since Rudd dismantled that policy. Given these facts, you're comments show just how ignorant you are.

And the fact that they are dying now despite reimplementation of your policies shows just how ignorant you are.

But they haven't reimplemented the entire policy. Not even half of it. Just one small part - offshore processing. The current situation is really no different than prior to onshore processing, except that the detention centres will not be in Australian territory. Without TPV's and the other components that made the Pacific Solution so successful, Gillard is setting herself up for more failures.

Well none of it is Labor policy. And it sure as hell ain't Greens policy! We got YOUR policy. And it doesn't work, just as predicted.

Labor introduced the Bill, its their policy.

Following your logic, the dental plan isn't Labor policy, it's Abbott's dental plan. Coalition introduced dental care, Labor have just changed it a bit.

Julia Gillard - twice selected, never elected.

We're still paying for the Whitlam Government.

Labors policy is Malaysia .... Abbotts is Nauru ... I want Forrest Gump to explain to me why this is on Gillards head and not Abbott? It seems to me everyone got what they wanted except for Gillard ..... not to worry Gumpy, I'll accept a copy / paste as a reply ... It's all anyones likely to get from you anyway .....

Labor is in power therefore we have labor/green policy.

There were only 4 boat people in detention before labor dismantled the pacific solution, this was not a problem until passion fingered labor made it into a multi billion dollar debacle.

what a pathetic excuse ... labors policy is the Malaysia solution, and has been for a while. The fact that its a hung parliament means that the government of the day does not get to implememnt it's policies .... try labors solution and then blame labor if it fails, otherwise accept that they adopted Abbotts solution and it doesn't work ..

Tell me, how do you not get sand up your nostrils with your head permanently buried in the sand ... ????

Labor haven't got anything to show for "their" offshore processing policy. Howard set up offshore processing from scratch (i.e. there were no existing facilities) and had people in the detention centre on Nauru inside 19 days. Labor won't have anyone in them until toward the end of September - a month and a half after the bill passed through parliament. I'd hate to see how this government would handle a large scale disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina's devastation of New Orleans a number of years ago. If past experience is anything to go by, Labor's response may well be more disastrous than the hurricane itself!

...

Does anyone remember the name of the "solution" started by Malcolm Fraser - and continued by Bob Hawke ?

Not ONE boat, in NINE YEARS !

I MEAN, that's a WAY better run than any OTHER "solution" I can recall

We SHOULD go BACK to it

it is the topic ... you just don't like the answer ... you make these people your problem for the same reasons people made the Jews their problems during WWII ..... or is it different because they were Jews?

Why don't you just refuse to process any asylum seekers if they come by boat?

Jail them and refuse them entry.

Ignore the UN. Your problem is you are frightened of the UN.
Just ignore it.

Then see the boats stop. Be hard not soft.
