Use less, that's the whole idea.

And if someone wants to rip you off like the garden bag man putting his rates up by 25%, you quit using their services.

My gas bill was slightly less than for the same time last year..I have solar on the roof so my electricity bills are still less than zero and I rarely if ever drink booze these days so despite not getting one cent in compensation so far the carbon tax has had no direct effect on me.
If things go up in price and I cant afford the increase I just use less of the product or service or change to something else..it seems quite simple to me.

Thats probably because you used less gas,I am merely stating this:

gas-from 2.40 to 2.6928 c/lt

elec-from 20.69 to 23.071 c/kwh

Drinking schooners is of course a personal choice.

Exactly..I used less gas and as my water rates increase I use less water.
I still heat my house and have a thriving vegie garden..I just use a little common sense when doing so.

Your usage will not affect the electricity bill, for example. A friend who owns a pub in my town actually decreased his electricity useage in the last billing period, yet his electricity bill was actually approx. $2,000 more expensive than the pervious period! Spare a thought for chook farmers!!!

Of course your usage effects the bill..use 9-10% less and you  mitigate the carbon tax.
And if you stick a decent solar system on your roof you can kiss power increases goodbye for ever.
I suppose you also remember that the carbon tax is only a small part of the last few years increases and given the simple fact there will be more and greater increases its only common sense to look at massive cuts as to how you use electricity or use alternatives such as solar.
Labor, Liberal whatever...massive increases in energy prices are gonna keep happening so its no good just whinging.

Really? You sure? The carbon component of my friends' electricity bill was 15% of the total charge. As for Gillard's laughable claim that businesses such as that of my friend can simply pass on the increased cost of electricity "because people are being compensated" shows just how far out of touch with reality she is. It's impossible to increase charges to customers to the tune of $15k-$20k per year!!! My God, someone lend that woman a brain!!!

armpits at it again..!! Shocked  along with the usual suspects.!

My electricity rate, with Origin QLD... went from  20.69/kWh  to    23.071/kWh.  My Origin bill included a leaflet, which I read, and thought, well this is the future.!!

But it definitely didn't say what  ??? whatsits said.  Get real/...  proof ..take it to the ACCC.. else you are a liar.....just like your political hero.

I had already taken steps to rationalise my usage,.... so my bill went down ..this quarter.! Smiley
Imagine that?

I have too many trees to install a viable solar powered substitute ..and I understood the issues facing us ALL, so ...I just acted sensibly.

I do have gas for water heating and cooking, .. and I cook on my slow-combustion cooker, in winter..  so I  am afraid I don't FEEL YOUR PAIN, you profligate users.
Time to stop wasting your childrens future yeah????

Funny thing is that Abbnotts plan is to spend a heap of money raised from Taxation where the current plan involves no tax pyers money.

Abbnotts solution is for a genuine carbon tax.

Where the current price on carbon means that the emitters help to subsidise the solution in Abbnotts scheme we all have to subsidise the carbon emitters in a scheme where the insentive is for them to increase their income by increasing their output of carbon dioxide which gaurantees them more of our  tax dollars in exchange for fixing nothing.

Well isnt that a shame that one is a dictator and the other takes it to an election for the people to decide.

Gillard clearly said that she would be willing to price Carbon in this term and she has.

The contentious part is that she committed to not using a tax. This is not really a tax and can only just barely be considered to be one. It is not the type of tax that was being talked about, not the type of tax that Abbnott had recomended as the best option.

Nobody will ever pay any tax with this tax. NEVER EVER.

i.e. it is not really a tax at all.

a TAX or a Price..what difference does it make.. we get the bill at the end of the day.

suddenly mining is slowing down.... well that depend on who you listen too..

Ferguson or Wong..hahahaha... they mustnt have read their scripts that morning.,.

anyway what ever the truth of the matter is.. sooner or later mining will feel the pinch..and when that happens then the wages will drop as they are already bringing in cheaper labor from overseas..

the wages might be fine RIGHT NOW..but the mines will soon be able to have a take it or leave it attitude..

and this TAX wont help will it??????..

sorry this TAX that really isnt a TAX just a thingy    really.. something thats there and is a bit of an embarrassment..

lets face it dna every man and his dog has been out there trying to sell this thingy to us all without much success. maybe you should tell them about your system...LOL..

a TAX or a Price..what difference does it make. - the difference is that the price we have now is paid by the polluters.

THe tax Abbott proposes to put on us will be paid for by US the taxpayers - paid to the polluters

I do understand what your saying but ultimately the man at the bottom pays,it's catch 22.

No - it isn't Catch-22 at all.  Don't quote books you obviously haven't read.

Under a market driven carbon price the man at the bottom can make choices.  Unlike Yossarian.  And unlike Australians under Abbott's proposed GREAT BIG CARBON TAX.

and you know..?

Catch-22?

If anyone is stuck in Catch-22... wouldn't that be Abbott?
Difference here??   he is not the hero of the story.!

Yossarian was basically an innocent.

Abbott is evrything but.! Smiley

Yossarian bailed. Deserted. "The knife came down, missing him by inches, and he took off. "

That's what the electorate is doing at the next opportunity.

Is this idiot for real?

He has been around for a long time and never changed - I don't think there is much doubt that he is?
