DESERTICATION PROCESS NEEDS POLICY SPOTLIGHT
Aug 17th, 2012 at 6:28pm

This a serious process that once started it bodes ill for the area concerned!!

Planting trees is one thing but the inability to plant them is a much more dramatic kettle of fish!

When are we going to get real: stockmarket speculation is short term tunnel vision that ultimately adds up to a population that is wasting valuable time!

THE CHILDREN PEOPLE,... WHY WONT ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

So, the question becomes, "Why did you have kids?"

*Sure....they're anti competitive as any subsidised job is.  It wouldn't be there without the tax payer.  Very damned difficult for a brainwashed collectivist to understand that I know....  (swaggy) *

What is "desertication" and what does it have to do with the stock market anyway?

Sure God created man before woman. But then you always make a rough draft before the final masterpiece.

So you're saying we're overpopulated and your also saying that we should cut immigration to zero...that is the logical conclusion if you don't want those here to reproduce because of the state of the environment. So not only stop the boats but the planes as well.
Alas Gillard says no to training up those kiddies your so fond of for decent jobs when you can get skilled or not so skilled in from os, so no need for training. So much so that immigration is at close to record levels.

Are you talking about erosion?

Erosion can be classed as desertification.

It's certainly a part of it as when back in the good old days we cut down too many trees and the wind whipped off more and more top soil making the soil irreversibly of a poorer quality in which things could survive.

Such things are termed feedback mechanisms.

But the process doesn't have to start with the cutting down of trees and so trying to call the whole concept of desertication 'erosion' is essentially misleading.

But, no doubt, erosion is a large part of it. Erosion is wind and wind is second hand solar power. But the warming effect of GHG means that solar power increasingly drives the moisture out of the ground which can do the work of cutting down trees for you!

Whether that moisture condenses and soaks that same earth again is where we get lost in complications and science can only throw its hands in the air!!

... sometimes you just need more data.

There is a famous concept of uncertainty in science: it basically boils down to not being able to measure everything or the universe would be filled with measuring devices!

Just like economics!!

Complex systems ay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wink Wink

YES, BUT THE QUESTION IS WHAT ARE YOU MEASURING?

You can't simply measure irrelevant stuff to infinity or your time, not to mention the physical space, is taken up by the measuring process.
