Faceless men cash lost if Labor dumps Julia Gillard, threatens TWU

INFLUENTIAL union leader Tony Sheldon has threatened to withdraw $200,000 in political donations to the Labor Party if MPs dump Julia Gillard in favour of Kevin Rudd, as he joined fellow union bosses to reaffirm the labour movement's support for the Prime Minister.

Speaking before a meeting between Ms Gillard and union leaders at The Lodge in Canberra tonight, Mr Sheldon, the national secretary of the Transport Workers Union, has also warned that returning Mr Rudd to the prime ministership would be a "disaster" for the union movement.

Sources told The Australian that Mr Sheldon told a meeting of union leaders on Tuesday that a "small minority" of MPs - whom he described as "dickheads" - was continuing to push for Mr Rudd to return to the leadership.

Sources said Mr Sheldon had said Mr Rudd "cannot be trusted" to represent union members and would lose the election if he seized the leadership.

He warned that if Mr Rudd was elected leader by caucus, his union's national office and its state branches would refuse to make financial contributions to federal Labor's re-election campaign.

They won't go back to Kev. He is the cause of most of Labor's current problems (i.e. illegal immigrants). Still, it amazes me that those people who vote in polls to say they want him back forget just how poorly he performed in the top job.

Less poorly than Gillard and with no other options to choose from.

Yes I agree. So why don't we change the system? Give the people a free vote to elect a president every four years, who has the right to veto anything the parliment presents. My vote goes to -

...

Geoff Cousins for President
