you know I might just get used to a country run by the greens.. all I have to do is ask and I shall receive thanks to the greens.

they love giving out pay rises.. [as well as taking them].. they love putting up taxes but as jobs go then there wont be too many feeling the pain of paying taxes..so I can live with that.

the new green way is fewer jobs.. people who still have a job  will be working from home as cars will be illegal..unless windup.everything will be clean and sweet.. I quite like the idea.

bring on the 1st class travel here there an everywhere..

no pain no shame.

pensioners $338  pollies $5000 seems fair!

It's disgusting, cods.

Good to see Tony and Warren come out and criticise this, good on them!

Cods,
When the Pollies get a rise, their salaries are often compared to CEO's who are often paid considerably more than the Pollies and therefore we should pay the Pollies more.

Well, I have no problem with CEO's, Pollies or anyone else getting large pay packets!

However, I would say that any & all of those pay packets, bonuses, incentives & any other "advantages" be conditional on those individuals earning their remuneration, by way of returning true value to their shareholders, their constituents or simply those they work for, particularly over the medium to longer term & NOT just the short term!

On that basis, I would suggest most CEO's & Pollies, FAIL MISERABLY and that most of these Pollies & CEO's should refund most of what they have been given.

I would suggest that the old, reliable "drovers dog" could probably do just as good or as poor a job, just by sitting down all day, wagging its tail!

In short, most of them look no further than their own self interest and that is short term as well.

Few of them would have any idea what the medium to longer term holds for themselves, certainly they have little idea, nor any interest in our long term interests!

Other than that, I'm sure they're doing a great job?

Yes, CEOs (and various other professions) are payed a lot more than pollies, but the fundamental difference here is that WE pay the pollies.

I see where you're coming from and it is correct that WE pay more directly for "our" Pollies.

However, we still pay for the CEO's, albeit a little less directly  AND frankly most of their performances are less than stunning, as a quick look at most share prices will confirm.

AND, whilst it is also correct that the OZ share prices have been significantly impacted by Global events, that does not detract from the fact that shareholder value has declined markedly since 2007, whilst CEO's remuneration has continued to head North, just like the Pollies!

Pollies, unlike CEO's have other benefits though that keep on giving long after they have left politics.
