The value of foreign aid.
Jul 3rd, 2012 at 7:10pm

Six years ago Australia was the 2nd most hated country amongst Indonesians, after the United States. Today it is the 2nd most popular country. Why? According to Makruf Jamhari, the State Islamic University's deputy rector, it was largely because of an AusAid program that helped build more than 2000 primary schools.

Why is this important? Indonesia, a country of 240 million people right on our back door step, is projected to become one of the world's top ten economies by 2030. Educational gaps are also primarily filled by fundamentalist religious groups.

Look after your own backyard, indeed.

Why does a nation with 10x our population need foreign aid?

Are they building Islamic schools with this aid?

Aceh , a part of Indonesia brought back stoning to death for adultery in 2009 so what makes leftards think Islam can progress out of the 7th century?

It's true, but at the level of education that we're talking about here, it's unlikely to have an impact. Primary and secondary school kids won't study anything much that isn't in the curriculum. It's only at university level and only those that are prepared to allow themselves to think freely that will investigate their religious standing and if what they've been led to believe is in fact true. It's a giant step in such a religious country.

The money is going into Islamic schools, do you think that will help with religious brainwashing?

Not all Islamic schools are the same. Some of them have very little to do with education. Where the state fails to provide education, fundamentalists can fill the gaps.
