Just on the NZ "deferment", I pulled this off somewhere else....

NZ is not deferring it "ETS". They are deferring some of the proposed changes which would have introduced agriculture and restricted the number of overseas permits which could be bought. Maybe others.

In any case the NZ ETS is hardly equivalent to the proposed AU schemes. Neither is their economy.

NZ energy comes from mostly geothermal and hydro so their per capita CO2 emissions are drastically lower than Australia's. You could argue they have far less example to show to other countries.

About half of NZ emissions come from agriculture, this is also one of their main exports. In Australia, agricultural emissions are already excluded from the scheme. And in Australia, trade exposed industries are being given support. As far as I know this is not the case in NZ.

This is terrible news, but mainly because it will give ILL INFORMED people another reason to encourage ill-informed Australians to think their carbon pricing schemes are a bad idea.
