There has to be a better way to allow refugees in this country. I'm all for assisting those in need - surely this Labor/Greens can agree on that at least?

This is just sad. Sort it out Labor/Greens. Blaming Tony Abbott shows no leadership in solving the problem - work around it.

You people are inciting these people to their deaths with your immigration corruption and for what - profits for organized crime and the Mafia?  Is it worth the deaths of these people to keep encouraging them to come for your own political and financial interests?  Do their deaths sit comfortably with the Government who in the end have blood on their hands.

Asylum seeker boat capsizes north of Christmas Island

A BOAT carrying up to 200 asylum seekers has capsized north of Christmas Island this afternoon.

Australian searchers have seen survivors in the water with merchant ships racing to the scene of the disaster 120 nautical miles north of Christmas Island.

The news comes as three other boats, carrying about 238 people, have been intercepted near Christmas Island over the past 24 hours.

The boat has overturned in Indonesian waters and the Australian Government has offered assistance.

A spokeswoman for the Australian Maritime Search and Rescue Authority said survivors had been spotted.

“There are survivors, we cannot confirm numbers at this stage,” she said.

Two Australian patrol boats are heading to the scene as well as a P3 aircraft.

That's right, PB. The only way through this morass is to vote for Matty in the upcoming election.

Maybe Mr Abbott will put him in as the parliamentary secretary to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs.

Why is it Labor/Greens? Why isn't it Labor/Greens/Coalition? The coalition gets a vote as well you know. If Labor and coalition vote together, the Greens are irrelevant.

If you want this solved, tell Tony to sit down and work it out with Jools. And stick to the agreement this time.

Fair call - I worded that incorrectly, mainly because the Greens support on shore processing. Its up to Labor since they are the ones in power.

Well.. technically, the coalition also supports onshore processing inasmuch as they voted WITH the Greens against Labor's offshore processing proposal. The thing with this parliament is that, unlike normal parliaments, decisions rest on a tripod. It doesn't matter who is in power, any legislation needs at least two legs otherwise it doesn't get up.

You're incredible. Tony Abbott doesn't have to do anything and shouldn't be expected to do anything! This entire mess is entirely of Labor's making and therefore it is up to the ALP and Gillard to submit a suitable policy to Parliament for consideration. Simply refusing to consider anything other than the Malaysia deal, which has been ruled ILLEGAL by the full bench of the High Court, is no solution. Blaming Tony Abbott smacks of desperation, given that he DID NOT create this farce. Labor has shown nothing but complete and utter incompetence on this issue and hundreds of people are dying because of it. Every death is due to Labor changing this country's border protection policies with regard to illegal immigrants following Kevin Rudd becoming PM. The changes have been an unmitigated disaster. It is well past time for Gillard to stop behaving like a petulant child and support the Opposition in reinstating the extremely effective policies that Kevin Rudd dismantled.
