Electricity price rise due to carbon tax

Well, well, well. So much for the Gillard governments' pathetic claims that the carbon tax compensation will not leave us worse off. Electricity prices are going to skyrocket in NSW, with some people to be hit with a rise of close to $600 per year.

Sell vital infrastructure to private enterprise and the prices will rise, the CEO has to get his bonus and the shareholders have to make a profit, all from you. Blame the person who sold it off in the first place.

So... care to tot that up and tell us what the bill comes to when you look at ALL the parts of the package and ONLY the parts that pertain to the package?

NSW Energy Minister Chris Hartcher seized on the report to argue consumers in western Sydney would be particularly worse off under the carbon tax.

"Even worse, the calculation by IPART shows that for people in western Sydney served by Endeavour Energy, 80 per cent of their price increase is due to the carbon tax," he told parliament.

While average NSW household electricity prices are expected to rise by $170 in 2012/13, some customers are facing increases of up to $555 a year for electricity and $142 a year for gas.

Both parties have committed to reduce carbon emissions to 5% below 1990 levels and will have to spend billions to achieve that goal!!!

1. Direct Action is expensive and less affective than putting a price on carbon.

2. 60% of the Coalitions reductions using Direct Action consists of storing carbon in soil which is not currently counted in the protocol.

3. Storing carbon in soil is experimental and research by the CSIRO indicates much less carbon can be stored than is claimed by the opposition.

4. Farmers have indicated the price offered by Tony Abbott of $10 a tonne is a joke and the price will be up to 10 times higher making Direct Action far more expensive.

5. Taxpayers will pay for Tony Abbott's Direct Action policy.

6. Direct Action will not work.
