TURKEY BEGINS DEPLOYMENT

MARDIN - Doğan News Agency

Turkey has deployed a large number of military vehicles to the Syrian border. The shipment included 15 armored tanks, in addition to long-distance guns and other military vehicles. The convoy was heavily guarded as it moved toward the border in the event of an attack by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members. Military sources couldn’t immediately confirm the report. Military units reportedly increased security measures on the border following recent events that have strained bilateral relations. In a related development in the region, 13 zones near Hakkari, Diyarbakır and Şırnak have been declared temporary militray security zones. Diyarbakır Governor’s Office said yesterday in a written satement that no civilians will be allowed in the mentioned regions between July 6 and Oct. 6 since shooting drills will be exercised in those areas.

Shooting drills??? At a time like this? Turkey are exercising????  Huh or ..............

Syria arrests over 40 Germans for smuggling arms: Report

...
Syrian armed rebels sit in a pick-up truck in the city of Qusayr southwest of Homs in western Syria, June 22, 2012.

Syria has reportedly arrested more than 40 German nationals for attempting to smuggle arms into the country.

An alternative news weblog, the NSNBC, cited a German journalist as saying that the German nationals are the employees of a "security firm."

The weblog report further said that the Germans were detained while attempting to smuggle arms and ammunition from a cargo vessel in the international waters off the coast of Syria.

The source added that the Germans are reportedly jailed along with over 300 other foreigners, among them Portuguese paratroopers.

No German authority has commented on the matter, yet.

Since the start of the turmoil in Syria, the smuggling of arms into the country has been on the rise.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of many people, including security forces.

Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.

The West and the Syrian opposition, however, accuse the government of killing protesters.

Gunmen storm pro-Assad Syrian TV channel

By Oliver Holmes
BEIRUT | Wed Jun 27, 2012 4:04am EDT
(Reuters) - Gunmen broke through the gates of a pro-government Syrian TV channel headquarters on Wednesday, bombing buildings and shooting dead three employees, state media said, in one of the boldest attacks yet on a symbol of the authoritarian state.

President Bashar al-Assad declared late on Tuesday that his country was at war and the attack on Ikhbariya's offices - located 20 km (15 miles) south of the capital - as well as overnight fighting on the outskirts of Damascus show that 16 months of violence is now rapidly encroaching on the capital.

Footage aired on Ikhbariya, which resumed broadcasting shortly after the attack, showed bullet holes pockmarked a two-storey concrete building and pools of blood on the floor. One building made of corrugated iron had been almost completely destroyed and flames licked at the metal frame.

"I heard a small explosion then a huge explosion and gunmen ran in. They ransacked the offices and entirely destroyed the newsroom," an employee who works at the offices in the town of Drousha told state media at the scene.

The Syrian press is tightly regulated by the Ministry of Information. Although Ikhbariya is privately owned, opponents of Assad say it is a government mouthpiece.

During the pro-democracy revolt against the Assad family's four-decade rule, Ikhbariya has been pushing to counter what it says is a campaign of misinformation by Western and Arab satellite channels on the uprising, which it describes as a foreign-backed terrorist conspiracy.

Assad says Syria at war as battle reaches capital

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad declared on Tuesday that his country was at war and ordered his new government to spare no effort to achieve victory, as the worst fighting of the 16-month conflict reached the outskirts of the capital.
Video published by activists recorded heavy gunfire and explosions in suburbs of Damascus. A trail of fresh blood on a sidewalk in the suburb of Qudsiya led into a building where one casualty was taken. A naked man writhed in pain, his body pierced by shrapnel.
Syria's state news agency SANA said "armed terrorist groups" had blocked the old road from Damascus to Beirut.
The declaration that Syria is at war marks a change of rhetoric from Assad, who had long dismissed the uprising against him as the work of scattered militants funded from abroad.
"We live in a real state of war from all angles," Assad told a cabinet he appointed on Tuesday in a speech broadcast on state television.
"When we are in a war, all policies and all sides and all sectors need to be directed at winning this war."
The rambling speech - Assad also commented on subjects as far afield as the benefits of renewable energy - left little room for compromise. He denounced the West, which "takes and never gives, and this has been proven at every stage".
The United Nations accuses Syrian forces of killing more than 10,000 people during the conflict, which began with a popular uprising and has built up into an armed insurgency against four decades of rule by Assad and his father.

Military Sources: British Commandos Operating In Syria, Assad Compound Under Siege

Reports suggest Western military intervention in full swing
Steve Watson
Infowars.com
June 26, 2012

...

French, British and Turkish military sources have suggested that elite British soldiers have entered Northern Syria and are operating ten kilometers inside the country in what is thought to be the first offensive western intervention against the Assad regime.
“Our military sources estimate that the British military drive into Syria, if confirmed, is designed to establish the first safe zone along the Syrian-Turkish border, to be followed by more Western military incursions to establish additional zones of safe asylum in other parts of Syria.” reports the Israeli intelligence website Debkafile.
The site notes that sources have indicated that any such further coordinated action is to be determined based upon “Syrian, Russian and Iranian (+ Hizballah) responses to the initial stage of the operation.”
The same sources also indicate that Syrian government forces and the rebel opposition are fighting in two Damascus suburbs, Qudsaya and Hammah.
The sources have indicated that the attacks are targeted at the presidential palace of Bashar al-Assad and the compound of the presidential guard.
Reports of clashes and overnight shelling in the capital have been corroborated by the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Tuesday morning that Western military intervention in Syria would not be tolerated by Moscow, and that Russia would act decisively to prevent it.
Debkafile also notes that the perceived double offensive against Assad began just hours before the NATO “consultation” in Brussels on the shooting down of a Turkish warplane by Syria last Friday.
“The two-pronged operation – the reported British incursion and major clash at the front door of Assad’s presidential palace – would appear to be designed to widen the cracks in his regime and speed its final breakup.” the report states.
The website’s sources have proven accurate in the past.
Back in February reports emerged suggesting that British and Qatari troops were operating inside Syria, directing rebel ammunition deliveries and overseeing the battle for the strategic city of Homs.
Debkafile, reported that British troops are already in Syria leading armed groups, and that the MI6 has established four centers of operation in the city.
The British government denied that it was carrying out any clandestine operations within the country. “These reports are untrue. There are absolutely no British troops on Syrian territory at the moment,” an embassy official said at the time.
Earlier this month more reports emerged indicating that Britain was planning to set up refugee camps inside Syria under a humanitarian pretext, when in reality the operation was a cover for assisting armed rebels fighting against the government.
It also emerged this month that Emissaries from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) have held meetings with high level U.S. government officials in Washington. The CIA, MI6 and Mossad supported rebels consulted with Obama’s National Security Council and presented a shopping list of heavy weapons, including surface-to-air missiles.
Debkafile also reported that Barack Obama has told the US Navy and Air Force to prepare air strikes on Syria as part of a “no fly zone” that will be enforced with the aid of British and French military power.

“Their mission will be to knock out Assad’s central regime and military command centers so as to shake regime stability and restrict Syrian army and air force activity for subduing rebel action and wreaking violence on civilian populations,” the report reads.
If launched, US air strikes on Syria will be undertaken without Congressional approval, just as Obama green lighted the attack on Libya with a churlish disregard for the constitutional process. US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has repeatedly stated that Congressional authorization for a military assault on Syria will not be sought by the Obama administration, which considers NATO and the UN to be the supreme authority.

Syria worse than before ceasefire: envoy

AAP
June 27, 2012

A senior UN official says violence in Syria has "reached or even surpassed" levels before the ceasefire agreement of April 12.
THE UN's deputy envoy for Syria, Jean-Marie Guehenno, says the six-point plan forged by his boss Kofi Annan "is clearly not being implemented".
Guehenno said on Wednesday that the Syrian government and rebel groups must be made to understand that there were "consequences" to failure to implement the six-point plan.
Guehenno's statement to the UN Human Rights Council on came before a high-level meeting of world powers on Saturday in Geneva to discuss Syria.

Quote:
UN Monitors In Syria Spy For Washington
By Stephen Lendman
6-21-12

On April 21, Security Council Resolution 2043 established UNSMIS.

It authorized 300 observers to monitor "a cessation of armed violence in all its forms by all parties and to monitor and support the full implementation of the (Annan plan) to end the conflict in Syria."

On June 16, UNSMIS suspended its activities subject to daily review. On June 17, China's Xinhua News Agency headlined "Suspension of UN observer mission serves for western 'next step' in Syria," saying:

Next steps involve "political transition." Military options may be chosen. Syria said violence escalated markedly after UN monitors arrived.

Insurgents carried out massacres and "at least five huge bombings....in different parts of the country...."

National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said Washington is working with allies "regarding next steps toward a Syrian-led political transition" without Assad.

America wants war. It's "pushing for militarization...."

Reports say "around 6,000 people, including Arabs, Afghans and Turks, have been recruited and trained by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to commit 'terrorist' acts in Syria."

On June 15, UN mission head General Robert Mood said:

"There appears to be a lack of willingness to seek a peaceful transition. Instead there is a push towards advancing military positions."

He pointed fingers largely at Assad. He left his real motives unexplained.

On June 19, Russia Today (RT.com) headlined "Syria UN mission headed by spy?" saying:

An unnamed Jordanian UNSMIS monitor accused Mood of "gathering critical coordinates and visiting military bases for his own purposes."

Syrian state media published his remarks.

"Sources say Norwegian General Mood took his convoy to the city of Tartus last Friday, where no violence was reported."

"The group visited no less than four military installations of the Syrian Army there without any sanction through the General’s UNSMIS mandate."

His convoy also went to Rastan far from fighting. He and others "went straight to the Syrian Army's military installation, again without any apparent connection to (his) mandate."

Syrians say he's spying. His mission isn't about monitoring crisis conditions. Analysts recall how Iraq weapons inspectors were fraudulently used. More on that below.

Press TV reported the same story. Lebanon's al-Diyar newspaper said an unnamed Jordanian monitor accused General Mood and other UNSMIS members of "conduct(ing) acts of espionage against the Syrian government."

Military areas visited included Daraa, Homs, and Idlib. They're where Syria maintains "air and defensive air army" facilities.

Videos were made. Targeted sites included an al-Hareh aerial reconnaissance base and a military installation located between Nowi and al-Sheikh al-Meskin.

Spying on the pretext of monitoring is common US practice.

Press TV also said Syrian insurgents are getting Israeli weapons. They're smuggled in from Turkey and Lebanon.

"Images taken from the strategic mountainous region show trenches constructed and used by the armed groups. Weapons made in Israel and imported ammunition chests were also found."

Israeli President Shimon Peres said he respected armed gangs that "expose themselves to live fire and I hope that they will win."

Previous reports also confirmed that Israel supplies insurgents with weapons. It's actively involved with Washington's regime change plans.

A separate Press TV report accused CIA and Mossad operatives for Syrian massacres.

Deputy head of Turkey's Felicity Party, Temel Karamollaoglu, said:

"Not only the Syrian crisis will not be solved, but (Washington and Israel are heading the country for) civil war."

"Due to having common interests in Syria, the US, Israel, and the EU make no attempt to stop bloodshed in the country."

On the one hand, he added, Western countries claim they support peace. On the other, they stoke conflict. Their motives are clearly transparent.

On January 7, 1999, The New York Times headlined "US Spied on Iraq Under UN Cover," saying:

Unnamed US officials confirmed it. American "spies had worked undercover on teams of United Nations arms inspectors ferreting out secret Iraqi weapons programs."

Saddam's government said UN teams were riddled with "American spies and agents."

"Scientists, military officers, diplomats and other professionals serve on the commission. The United States included some intelligence officers, using diplomatic cover or other professional identities, to gather intelligence independently, according to the officials."

Former Iraq chief weapons inspector Scott Ritter (1991 - 1998) said CIA operatives corrupted UNSCOM. It was the special commission to investigate alleged Iraqi WMDs.

Ritter called it "a facade." It wasn't about disarming Iraq. It was used for regime change. GWH Bush ordered it. Clinton and GW Bush continued it.

Ritter and other monitors understood the scheme. Washington controlled the process. UNSCOM was a Trojan Horse. Saddam, not WMDs, were targeted. Aggressive spying was conducted. War was waged on false pretenses.

Official reasons given were to disarm Saddam. It "was a bald-faced lie." Intelligence was fixed to justify policy.

"Nobody wants to talk about the deception, the lies, the distortion that took place."

The pattern repeats. Lies facilitate wars. They're based on misinformation, fabrication, and managed news. At issue is replacing independent regimes with pro-Western puppet ones.

Iraq was "never about national security or international peace...." It was about advancing America's hegemonic interests. Syria and Iran are targeted for the same reason.

Ritter's book titled "Iraq Confidential: The Untold Story of the Intelligence Conspiracy to Undermine the UN and Overthrow Saddam Hussein" explained more.

Iraq was no noble cause. It's a disaster. Ends never justify means. Ousting Saddam didn't solve a problem. It created one.

In October 1992, Ritter accounted for all Iraqi ballistic missile programs. The same year, an Iraqi defector with firsthand knowledge said all its biological weapons were destroyed. "The CIA knew this," said Ritter.

They also knew that Saddam fully cooperated on virtually everything related to disarmament. Ritter's team got free access in accordance with "modalities of sensitive site inspections."

In 1990, Saddam went from America's true friend to the equivalent of Adolph Hitler. Gaddafi underwent a similar transition. So did Assad.

Post-9/11, US officials said he directly aided America's war on terror. At the same time, relations fluctuated between friendly cooperation and icy tension.

On December 29, 1979, the State Department declared Syria a state sponsor of terrorism. At issue was supporting Palestinian groups and Hezbollah. Damascus said it rejects terrorism but backs resistance to Israel's illegal occupation of Arab land.

Despite differences, US/Syrian relations warmed. Congressional delegations visited Damascus.

Nonetheless, Bush administration Undersecretary of State John Bolton called Syria a "rogue state."

Damascus University Law Professor Mohammed Aziz Shukri asked:

"When President Assad receives a letter from (Secretary of State) Colin Powell thanking him for his 'invaluable help' in pursuing terrorists, how in the name of heaven can we be called a terrorist state?"

He and other Syrians accused Washington of double standard politics. Syria's information minister Adnan Omran added:

"What is really strange now in the American administration is that we hear many voices coming from different corners and a lot of contradiction. I wonder if this is a healthy sign especially when it comes to the policy of a superpower."

"We want to see good relations existing between the US and Syria based on mutual respect, commitment to international principles, and the UN charter and not to (Washington's) blindly prejudiced position and alliance with Israel."

Assad concurred.  At the same time, he was uncompromisingly hardline on Israel. Perhaps it was his kiss of death. Netanyahu and America's Israeli Lobby want him ousted. Obama willingly obliges.

Moreover, flip-flop is official US policy. Today's ally is tomorrow's enemy. It's also true vice versa and, at times, Washington uses individuals, groups, and nations as friends and foes.

Wars ravaged Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

Saddam and Gaddafi were killed.

Assad knows what he's up against. Perhaps he's next.

First send in UN to spy, then test Syria's reaction by sending a plane...........
They are so broke that they think the wars will save them.

NATO Loses Plane Violating Syrian Airspace

Tony Cartalucci
Infowars.com
June 27, 2012
Once again the Western press preys on the ignorance of the population as a whole, freely admitting that a Turkish jet entered Syrian airspace (later confirmed here) but was “a mile into international waters” by the time it was shot down.

...

Image: A Turkish F-4 – manufactured by the US and last used in major combat operations in Iraq to destroy air defenses, Syria had every right to fire on this aircraft as it entered Syrian airspace. Even if claims by Turkey are true that it had retreated to a “mile” over international waters when it was destroyed, that would mean it was over international waters for a mere 2 seconds. This means whatever ordnance Syria used was already fired and airborne in Syrian airspace before the aircraft departed.
….
Technicalities
The F-4 fighter jet, the newest of which are already around 30 years old, has a top speed of mach 2.2, or 1,600 mph/2,500 kph. That means in one minute it can travel 26 miles – or nearly one mile ever 2 seconds.
Any anti-aircraft weapon fired against Turkey’s admittedly “off course” fighter aircraft would have certainly been fired while the aircraft was well within Syrian airspace with the fired ordnance airborne and on course to intercepting the aircraft before the aircraft traveled back over international waters. Turkey’s claim of being “a mile” within international airspace may seem reasonable to the average reader accustomed to traveling at speeds where a mile is relatively far, but in terms of air combat, a mile equates into seconds.
Turkey, acutely aware of the immense tensions it itself has cultivated with neighboring Syria, exercised reckless abandon by traveling so closely to Syrian airspace. What readers may also be unaware of is the role US-built F-4′s play in scouting out and neutralizing air defense systems. Designated “wild weasels,” F-4′s had been extensively used in the opening phases of war against Iraq in 1991, flying 2,596 sorties, firing more than 1,000 air-to-ground missiles, and destroying more than 200 targets in a campaign aimed at destroying Iraqi air defenses.
Perhaps hoping the average reader is profoundly ignorant to how speeds, trajectories, and weapons of modern warfare work, the press has attempted to portray the downing of the F-4 as a provocative act carried out entirely over international waters. In reality, Turkey’s jet was fired upon in Syrian airspace, by its own account, as it was supposedly in “international space” for only one or two seconds before finally being struck. Syria claims the entire event took place over Syrian waters – a claim NATO has been unable to refute with anything more substantial than mere rhetoric.
Act of War
Turkey has been admittedly harboring, arming, and supporting terrorists within its borders to destabilize neighboring Syria, according to US policy makers. Turkey has also made multiple threats against Syria, threatening partial invasion and conducting blockades. When a Turkish fighter crossed into Syrian airspace, Syria had every right to believe it was merely the next stage of military escalation implemented by NATO through its member-state Turkey.
Compounding Turkey’s provocative violation of Syria’s airspace, at the loss of one of its fighters, it with NATO’s explicit backing, is trying to escalate an already unjustified posture of war and aggression against Syria. The United Nations has been characteristically mute over these brazen violations of world peace as the West pursues openly a campaign to overthrow the government of Syria and replace it with a suitable proxy regime of its own preference.

Ankara deploys military convoy to Syrian border: Turkish media

...

Ankara has deployed a convoy of about 30 military vehicles, including trucks loaded with missile batteries, to the Syrian border, Turkish state media say.

According to reports by Turkish state media on Thursday, the convoy left the town of Iskenderun in the southern province of Hatay, heading for the Syrian border.

Several military vehicles have also been deployed separately to a military garrison in the border town of Reyhanli in Hatay.

The reports also stated that Ankara was transporting armored vehicles to military installations in the city of Sanliurfa, the capital of the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, close to the Syrian border.

The development comes two days after the Turkish Hurriyet Daily reported on June 26 that Ankara had deployed a “large number of military vehicles to the Syrian border,” including “15 armored tanks, in addition to long-distance guns and other military vehicles.”

On June 22, Syria said its air defense forces shot down a Turkish F-4 Phantom in the Syrian airspace “according to the laws that govern such situations.” The aircraft crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told TRT television on June 24, “According to our conclusions, our plane was shot down in international airspace, 13 nautical miles from Syria.”

However, Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi said in a press conference in Damascus a day later that the Turkish warplane “violated Syrian airspace, and in turn Syrian air defenses fired back and the plane crashed inside Syrian territorial waters.”

On June 26, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara would retaliate “with determination” and take the “necessary steps by determining the time, place and method by itself.”

Erdogan made the remarks on the same day when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a meeting of the new government that the country was in a “real situation of war.”

“When one is in a state of war, all our policies and capabilities must be used to secure victory,” Assad stated.

Obama Must Go! Russia Warns War Against America "Use With Nuclear Weapons"

On the eve of his trip to the United States, where he will meet with President Barack Obama, Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev delivered an unequivocal message to Obama and his NATO cohorts, who are threatening to intervene with regime-change operations in Syria, Iran, and elsewhere: Such actions can lead to "full-scale wars, even with nuclear weapons."Medvedev's warning, delivered at an International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg, comes in the wake of similar warnings issued May 3 by Russian Chief of Staff Nikolai Makarov, that the U.S.-NATO policy of Ballistic Missile Defense in Europe could lead to a Russian pre-emptive strike, and by Medvedev himself last November. The Russians are making it clear: attacks on national sovereignty will not be tolerated. Yet President Barack Obama, operating under the thumb of the British imperial strategy to crush all national sovereignty, has stuck to his provocative policy, pressing forward against Syria, Iran, and Russia itself. Thus, unless Barack Obama is removed from office, by Constitutional means, the world is headed toward thermonuclear war.No, the Russians are not bluffing; they are deadly serious. The question is: are we? Can we face the reality that the exchange of nuclear weapons will likely exterminate all life on this planet? Can we fail to act when not only our family and posterity, but all civilization can be wiped from the face of the earth, because we tolerated a President who took his orders from Malthusian lunatics like Prince Philip and the Queen of England?

British puppet Obama has already provided ample cause for his removal by virtue of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, or impeachment, through multiple violations of the Constitution. Every day he is in office, the situation worsens. But with the British Empire facing financial implosion, and going for end-game confrontation with Russia and China, Obama is now being pushed toward actions which will provoke thermonuclear war. The United States, and the world as a whole, stand in the clear and present danger of extinction, unless Obama is removed. With U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder sitting behind him, Prime Minister Medvedev stated Russia's principled position:"I would like to emphasise that we need to act in unison against such modern global challenges as the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, international terrorism, organised transnational crime, drug trafficking, and the threat of natural and man-made disasters. We can achieve this only through the collective efforts of states based on undeviating respect for the supremacy of law. ..."One more thing that I believe is important, considering my experience in politics, is the concept of state sovereignty. It should not be undermined even if for the sake of achieving some immediate political gain, including an election to a particular post. Such attempts threaten global order. There have been many recent examples of the concept of state sovereignty being undermined. Military operations against foreign states bypassing the United Nations; declarations of illegitimacy of certain political regimes on behalf of foreign states rather than the people of the country involved and imposing various collective sanctions, again bypassing international institutions, are some of them. This does not improve the situation in the world, while rash military interference in the affairs of another state usually results in radicals coming to power. Such actions, which undermine state sovereignty, can easily lead to full-scale regional wars even—I am not trying to scare anyone here—with the use of nuclear weapons. Everybody should remember this especially when we analyse the concept of state sovereignty." (Emph. added)Thus, when Obama threatens to repeat his unconstitutional Libya operation, this time against Syria, he is triggering not only a disastrous regional war, but a direct confrontation with the world's second greatest nuclear power, Russia. He ignores Russia's offers of cooperation, and presses on, toward death. There can no longer be any ambiguity as to what the consequences of allowing Obama to remain in office will be. Act now to politically remove Obama from office, or you will be culpable for an impending thermonuclear destruction of the planet. As of now, that destruction can be stopped. But only if you act.

Syrian troops near Turkish border: rebels
(AFP) – 2 hours ago

BEIRUT — The rebel Free Syrian Army said on Friday that Syrian troops were massing near the Turkish border amid tensions since Syria's downing of a Turkish jet last week.
"There are military units massing 15 kilometres or slightly more (10 miles), from the Turkish border, in the northern region" of Syria, FSA supreme military council head Mustafa al-Sheikh told AFP by telephone.
Asked to comment, a Syrian foreign ministry spokesman reported: "No hostile intentions from the Syrian side."
Sheikh said that around 2,500 troops backed by 170 tanks and other vehicles were stationed in the border area, roughly 25 kilometres (15 miles) from the main northern city of Aleppo, citing estimates from fighters on the ground.
Government forces have "regrouped and withdrawn from some of their checkpoints on the outskirts of Aleppo city to new locations" near the border, he said.
Sheikh said the troop build-up could be a "show of force against the Turkish military, which increased its presence on the Syrian border after the downing of its warplane by Syria."
"Fearing Turkish military intervention, the Syrian military proceeded to mobilise its forces," he said.
But he said the troop concentration might equally be in preparation for an operation inside Syria following heavy bombardment of the area by government forces in recent weeks.
"Another possibility for this mobilisation may be a crackdown in the northern Aleppo countryside," he said.
Turkey has sent missile batteries, tanks and troops to the border as a "security corridor" after Syria shot down a Turkish warplane late last week, media reports said.
State-run TRT television showed dozens of military vehicles reportedly heading for the border, in a convoy that included air defence systems.
The Turkish Phantom F-4 jet was downed by Syria over the eastern Mediterranean in what Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called a "heinous attack" over international waters.

Report: Russia involved in downing of Turkish jet

YNet
July 1, 2012
Russian technicians played a key part in the interception and shooting down of a Turkish warplane by Syria’s anti-aircraft defenses 10 days ago, Britain’s Sunday Times reported Sunday. Diplomatic sources in the Middle East told the paper that destroying the F-4E Phantom II was a split-second decision intended as a warning to NATO to stay out of Syria’s civil war.

...

A source in Israel’s Air Force was quoted as saying “we would not be surprised if these Russian experts, if they didn’t push the button, at least were beside the Syrian officers who did it.”
The downing of the plane pushed Ankara closer to military intervention in Syria as Turkish troops and tanks were deployed near the border with Syria. Damascus responded by sending two tank brigades to the border.
A long-standing client of the old Soviet Union, Syria has acquired sophisticated air defenses from Moscow over the past four decades and is seen as President Vladimir Putin’s last friend in the Arab world, opposition sources say.
