Houla Eye Witnesses: Free Syrian Army Responsible for Massacre

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars.com
May 31, 2012
The Syrian News blog has posted eye witness accounts of the massacre in the Syrian city of al-Houla on May 25.

...

The FSA is supported by the CIA and trained by British and French Special Forces.
According to a translation of a Russian video of the interviews, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) carried out the attacks and the victims were al-Assad loyalists and people who had demonstrated opposition to the armed opposition group supported by the CIA and trained by British and French Special Forces.
According to the accounts, FSA gunmen entered the city located in the Homs countryside and after securing it began killing people.
“The attack was carried out by a unit of armed fighters from Rastan, in which more than 700 gunmen were involved,” writes Marat Musin, a journalist with ANNA News. “They brought the city under their control and began with a cleansing action against loyalist (pro-Assad) families, including elderly people, women and also children.”
The head of an inquiry committee into the massacre put the number of attackers closer to 800.
The dead were put on display for the United Nations and the corporate media and portrayed as victims of al-Assad’s military, according to the Syrian News blog report.
The United Nations, the U.S., and the European Union have used the massacre to call for a new round of sanctions against al-Assad in an effort to force his compliance with an international peace plan that was recently rejected by the FSA.
“Time is running short for that (plan) because terrible crimes are being committed,” British Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Thursday. “There is a great danger of a collapse into a sectarian conflict more bitter and more widespread than we see today.”
Earlier today, we reported that U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice had emerged from a closed-door meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday and said the Council and the United States are prepared to attack the al-Assad government in Syria.
Russia and China are perceived by the West as standing in the way of imposing more sanctions on Damascus. On Sunday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said any additional sanctions should wait until an official investigation into the massacre that killed over a hundred people has concluded.
Russia’s Permanent Representative at the UN Igor Pankin questioned the allegations that Syrian armed forces are responsible for the al-Houla massacre, according to SANA, the Syrian Arab News Agency.
“In statements at the beginning of the UN Security Council session on developments in Syria, which convened upon Russia’s request, Pankin said that most victims in al-Houla were killed by bladed weapons or executed from close range, which contradicts the allegations that the victims were killed by artillery fire,” SANA reported.
Late Thursday, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees activist groups said “government troops unleashed heavy machine guns and mortar shells in Houla, a collection of poor farming villages in the central Homs province. A young man also was killed by sniper fire, both groups said,” according to the Associated Press.

British special forces caught dressed as Arab 'terrorists'

British soldiers have been caught posing as Arabs and shooting Iraqis in the occupied city of Basra in southern Iraq. A group of them was caught yesterday by Iraqi police. They were driving an Iraqi car, wearing Arab clothing, and carrying weapons and explosives.

The Iraqi police were patrolling the area looking for suspected "terrorists" or "insurgents", and they noticed that the men were acting suspiciously. Suddenly, without warning, the suspicious men started shooting at people, but the new Iraqi security forces managed to capture some of them before they could escape. Obviously, if these men had not been caught, the mass media would now be reporting the incident as just another attempt by evil "terrorists" to create civil war in Iraq.

There have been a number of incidents in this area and throughout Iraq in which police and civilians have been targeted and killed by "terrorists" or "insurgents". But this is the first time that any of those responsible have been caught in the act, and it is now clear that at least some of them are working directly for the occupying forces, as many Iraqis have openly suspected all along.

A few days ago, in a statement unreported in the corporate mass media, Iran's most senior military official specifically linked the instability in Iraq with agents of the US and its allies: "we have information that the insecurity has its roots in the activities of American and Israeli spies."

The post-war violence in Iraq is always been blamed on "Islamic extremists" or "rival ethnic factions". Yet in the history of the country, nothing like this has ever happened before. The problems began precisely when the US and UK seized control.

The Iraqi police arrested the men and put them in prison. Unfortunately the police never had a chance to question the men and find out exactly what they were doing, because within minutes the UK sent in six tanks and an elite SAS unit to break their terrorists out of jail.

During the illegal prison break Iraqi officials were held at gunpoint, much of the jail was demolished, and all of the other criminals and insurgents were set free. The US and UK do not hesitate to use violence and terror to achieve their objectives, no matter what the consequences.

The official explanation for the illegal jail break is that somebody thought the British men might be taken away by a gang of Iraqi resistance fighters and never seen again. This is blatantly nonsense, of course, because the entire prison was entirely surrounded by British tanks and troops. With the full force of the British military at hand, the terrorists were rescued quickly and easily.

As further details emerge, the Western media increasingly presents conflicting reports about the nature and sequence of events, and the official British sources cited without question in mainstream news coverage are indicative of a classic disinformation exercise.

When local people saw what was happening the area began to erupt with angry anti-British protests.

British tanks storm Basra jail to free undercover soldiers

British troops used tanks last night to break down the walls of a prison in the southern Iraqi city of Basra and free two undercover British soldiers who were seized earlier in the day by local police.
An official from the Iraqi interior ministry said half a dozen tanks had broken down the walls of the jail and troops had then stormed it to free the two British soldiers. The governor of Basra last night condemned the "barbaric aggression" of British forces in storming the jail.

Aquil Jabbar, an Iraqi television cameraman who lives across the street from the jail, said dozens of Iraqi prisoners also fled in the confusion.

In a statement last night the defence secretary, John Reid, said: "I am pleased to be able to say that the British servicemen who were seen being injured in the graphic photographs are being treated for minor injuries only and are expected to return to duty shortly. We remain committed to helping the Iraqi government for as long as they judge that a coalition presence is necessary to provide security."

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "We have not had confirmation of the full details of this. We've heard nothing to suggest we stormed the prison. We understand there were negotiations."

In a day of dramatic incidents in the heart of the British-controlled area of Iraq, the two undercover soldiers - almost certainly special forces - were held by Iraqi security forces after clashes that reportedly left two people dead and threatened to escalate into a diplomatic incident between London and Baghdad.

The soldiers, who were said to have been wearing Arab headdress, were accused of firing at Iraqi police when stopped at a road block.

In another incident an angry crowd attacked a Warrior armoured personnel carrier with petrol bombs. A British soldier was forced to flee from his burning vehicle.

Muhammad al-Abadi, an official in the Basra governorate, told journalists the two undercover soldiers had looked suspicious to police. "A policeman approached them and then one of these guys fired at him. Then the police managed to capture them."

Senior British officials said the Iraqis who attacked the Warrior armoured vehicle had prepared their petrol bomb attack before the incident involving the two undercover soldiers. The origins of the attack on the Warrior, they say, lay in events the previous day when about 200 members of the al-Mahdi Army, a militia headed by the radical Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, made a show of force in Basra, blocking roads in the city and demanding the release of their local commanders.

India votes for independent probe in Houla massacre

India on Friday voted in favour a UN Human Rights Council resolution to order an independent probe to hunt those guilty of the massacre in Syria's Houla's city. "We expect that the Commission of Inquiry will be able to identify those responsible for these heinous attacks and provide

clarity on the events that led to it," Indian envoy to the Geneva-based Council said explaining India's vote in favour of the resolution.
"We sincerely hope all concerned will cooperate to ensure an objective process of inquiry into these terrible events," the envoy said.

India has consistently supported all efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis through an inclusive Syrian-led process and has backed the mission of Joint Special Envoy Kofi Annan.

"We strongly condemn the El-Houla incident, which has resulted in death of over a hundred innocent civilians including women and children and have therefore intended to vote for this resolution. The incident underscores what the situation can lead to if there is any further delay in the complete cessation of violence," the Indian envoy said.

"We strongly believe that all parties need to abjure violence for there to be a genuine chance for a realistic and lasting solution to the Syrian crisis. We urge all sides to comply with their obligations under the Annan plan," the envoy said.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said the Houla massacre could constitute a "crime against humanity".

Forty-one of the 47-member council backed a call urging an investigation by the Commission of Inquiry on Syria, set up by the council last year to gather evidence on alleged rights abuses there.

Only Russia, China and Cuba voted against the resolution which they said was "unbalanced" as it presumed the guilt of the Syrian authorities.

Ecuador and Uganda abstained while the Philippines was absent.

Clinton Says Russian Arms Sales to Syria Raise Concerns

...

Scott Stearns
VOA News
June 1, 2012
Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country is not supplying arms to the Syrian government to use against opponents. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says Russian arms sales to Syria are of “serious concern” and could lead to civil war.
President Putin told German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Russia does not support any side in what he called an “extremely dangerous” situation in Syria. Following talks in Berlin, he said Russia “does not provide weapons that could be used in a civil conflict.”
The Russian government has long defended its continuing arms sales to Damascus, saying President Bashar al-Assad’s forces have the right to protect themselves against rebels that Damascus says are being supplied by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Secretary of State Clinton says Russian arms have helped President Assad withstand international pressure to step down after 15 months of violence.
“We know that there has been a very consistent arms trade even during this last year of violence in Syria coming from Russia to Syria. We also believe that the continuing supply of arms from Russia has strengthened the Assad regime,” said Clinton. “What those arms are being used for we can not speak with any accuracy. But the fact that Russia has continued to sustain this trade in the face of the efforts by the international community to impose sanctions and to prevent further arms flowing to the Assad regime and in particular the Syrian military has raised serious concerns on our part.”
Chancellor Merkel says she and President Putin both favor a political solution, with the work of U.N. and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan as a starting point. President Putin said he believes it is possible that Mr. Annan’s mediation can work, but it requires what he calls “a certain level of professionalism and patience” warning that “nothing should be done with force and be expected to have an instant effect.”
Secretary Clinton discussed the conflict in Syria with Norwegian government officials in Oslo Friday. She says “very strong opposition” from Russia is making it harder to put together an international coalition against President Assad.

“Their position of claiming not to take a position is certainly viewed in the Security Council, in Damascus, and elsewhere as a position supporting the continuity of the Assad regime,” said Clinton. “And if Russia is prepared, as President Putin’s remark seems to suggest, to work with the international community to come together to plan a political transition, we will certainly be ready to cooperate.
She says the United States is looking forward to finding a way to work with Russia to end the violence and support the Annan plan. Without Russian support, she says, Mr. Annan can not expand his mandate to push Damascus to confront what she calls terrible dangers in Syria.

‘Houla massacre an intelligence plot by Western politicians’

...

Russian Communist Party leader, Gennady Zyuganov
Fri Jun 1, 2012 12:44PM GMT

Leader of Russia’s Communist Party says the recent massacre in the Syrian village, Houla, which killed over 100 people, is an intelligence plot concocted by the Western politicians.

Gennady Zyuganov noted that some Western politicians and media outlets have created a hysteria on the massacre which took place in the western village of Houla on May 25.

The Russian politician strongly condemned what he considered as "a blatant provocation" in Syria and asked for an international probe into the crime, which he believed would sooner or later turn out to be related to the Western intelligence, like what happened in Yugoslavia, Libya, and Afghanistan.

The Communist leader also condemned the Western states for their quick accusation of the Syrian government, even before the results of the preliminary investigation into the massacre were disclosed, particularly that the reporters and international observers could not give any evidence proving the presence of heavy weaponry in the area.

Meanwhile, a Syrian government investigation into the massacre showed that anti-Damascus armed groups were responsible for the killings of over hundred people, including dozens of women and children.

The head of the inquiry, Brigadier General Qassem Jamal Suleiman, said on Thursday that between 600 and 800 armed terrorists used heavy machinery to carry out the attacks.

Suleiman also said that there was no evidence to indicate that artillery bombing by Syrian forces had led to the bloodshed, and blamed the armed groups for the massive loss of life as part of a plan to “eliminate the presence of the government [in the area] totally and turn it into a region out of government control."

30 years ago Hafez al-Assad did the Hama massacre.

The Sunni and shia dont get along, they have been killing each other for the last 1400 years, it started with the battle of the Camel.

The shia dont respect al-Bukhari who the Sunni treat like a prophet.

No Libya-style scenario to bring down President Assad: Putin

...

Russian President Vladimir Putin (L) and French President Francois Hollande take part in a press conference at the Elysee palace in Paris on June 1, 2012.
Sat Jun 2, 2012 6:0AM GMT

What is happening in Libya? What is happening in Iraq? Has it become safer there?....We propose to act in an accurate, balanced manner at least in Syria.”

Russian President Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned against any Libya-style plan to bring down the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“Why are we thinking that if we push the current leadership from power, then tomorrow general wellbeing will begin there?” Putin said after talks with his French counterpart Francois Hollande in Paris on Friday.

“What is happening in Libya? What is happening in Iraq? Has it become safer there?” he said. “We propose to act in an accurate, balanced manner at least in Syria.”

The Russian president also warned the situation in Syria was "extremely dangerous" and that he saw emerging signs of a civil war.

"As for sanctions, such questions must be discussed first at the UN Security Council. I think that, as you know, sanctions are still not effective. What we must do is [to] prevent the situation [from] evolving into the worst case scenario and fight against the possibility of civil war in Syria,” he said.

Putin noted that his country is pursuing a policy to reduce the violence in Syria to “the minimum.”

“We are not for Bashar Assad or for his opponents. We want to arrive at a situation where the violence is ended and the possibility of a civil war is completely avoided. That is the objective of our policy about Syria," he said.

The Russian president also accused Syrian armed gangs of killing hundreds of civilians.

For his part, the French president said that the ouster of the Syrian president must be the precondition for any political solution to the unrest. Hollande also called for the imposition of sanctions as a tool for pressuring Syria.

This comes as the recent killing of civilians in the Syrian village of Houla has fueled calls by some countries for more economic and diplomatic pressure on Damascus.

A Syrian government investigation into the massacre showed that anti-Damascus armed groups were responsible for the killings of over a hundred people, including dozens of women and children.

The head of the inquiry, Brigadier General Qassem Jamal Suleiman, said on Thursday that between 600 and 800 armed terrorists used heavy machinery to carry out the attacks.

This is while, about 280 UN observers are currently monitoring a ceasefire, which was part of a six-point peace plan brokered by UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Kofi Annan in March.

Imagine Al Qaeda with the world's biggest stockpile of dangerous chemicals.

..............................................................................

World at risk as Syrian chemical stockpile faces plunder

The West supports the opposition and proposes regime change in Syria. But should President Assad be removed, what would happen to his vast arsenal of chemical weapons, which may become a powerful tool of terrorism for radical extremists?

Charles Blair from the Federation of American Scientists shared with RT his views on the ramification of the Syrian conflict on the regional and global security.

RT: Syria controls one of the Arab World’s largest stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, which could pose a global threat if it ends up in the wrong hands. If these chemical weapons fall into the hands of Islamist and Al-Qaeda groups fighting for the rebels, what could the consequences be?

Charles Blair: I think that the key point that you made is what there might be. Certainly, we don’t have an understanding of how large the stockpile is. So it’s hard to precisely determine what the effect would be. But given the estimates of the stockpile as it is now, specifically the chemical weapons, you could see the weapons themselves used either within Syria, between different factions – if it’s a civil war – that are vying for power. You could see it used by the Assad regime against the Free Syrian Army. Or in other scenarios, if there was complete chaos you could see groups, like jihadist-type groups, violent Islamist groups taking those agents out of Syria.

And then they’d have some work to do. They’d have to weaponize the agents, they’d have to do some sort of research and development with them, but then it’s likely they could employ those weapons really anywhere throughout Northern Africa, Europe. They could even potentially bring them here within the United States. And of course the Asian countries – South Asia, Russia and East Asia would also be at risk. So, it really is a general, global threat that we are looking at.

RT: We heard concerns about chemical weapons in Libya, but that threat has never materialized. Why should we be worried this time?

CB: Libya joined the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2003, as you may well know, after they abandoned their nuclear program. And the Libyans were very co-operative. They showed the OPCW – the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the people that run the chemical weapons convention, the UN – they demonstrated all the chemical weapons they had and where they were.

And frankly, the chemical weapons at the Libyans’ hands were in very poor quality. They only had what we call nerve agents, which are the crudest types – they are very dangerous, but they are crude in terms of their sophistication of building. And so they had all been declared, and they were in about half a dozen leaky canisters at one central location. So what happened was, it got politicized a little bit, people were saying, “Well, what if chemical weapons are used?” when the experts knew, actually, that was not a possibility.

The difference is that with Syria, they have a much, much larger stockpile. Syria is not a part of the Chemical Weapons Convention, meaning that there are no UN inspectors, there’s no way of knowing what they have, and they have much, much larger quantities.

RT: So what is the lesser evil here – Assad staying in power or these reserves falling into the hands of militants?

CB: I think that is what the international community is grappling with. If your only wish as a state is to prevent the use of chemical weapons outside of that state or against civilians, then you have two strategies. The first would be to quickly try to support the Syrian Free Army to get it organized, so that when it does eventually take over control of Syria, they could quickly account for the chemical weapons. And that might be one of the reasons why the United States and some Western nations are pushing hard for a military action, if they can get the Chinese and the Russians on board.

The other way that you can look at it is that if you are playing the long game, which some would say the Russians and the Chinese are doing, then maybe the safest is just to let the things play out hoping that the Assad regime stays in power. If that is the case, than the chemical weapons would most likely are going to be kept in safe hands. A lot of this is dependent on what you think the ultimate outcome is going to be. Can Assad cling to power? Can he do it in a way that would not involve mass defections of army units that may have access to chemical weapons? Or do you think it’s a completely lost cause?

If the US and other Western forces with the support of Russia and China need to move in quickly and establish some sort of organizational method, so that when power is given to the Free Syrian Army, it’s a smooth transition. And one of the lessons of what happened in Libya is that although there was much support for the Libyan opposition, what was discovered later was that that opposition was still quite fragmented. So hopefully people have learned from that, and if we do support the anti-Assad forces, we could work more clearly with them to have a more cohesive organizational structure.

CIA Libya Rebels are Al-Qaeda Fighters From Iraq

Politics / Al-Qeeda
Mar 29, 2011 - 07:54 AM
By: Global_Research

Dr. Webster G. Tarpley writes: “Serpents, thirst, heat, and sand … Libya alone can present a multitude of woes that it would beseem men to fly from.” Lucan, Pharsalia
Washington DC, March 24, 2011 — The current military attack on Libya has been motivated by UN Security Council resolution 1973 with the need to protect civilians. Statements by President Obama, British Prime Minister Cameron, French President Sarkozy, and other leaders have stressed the humanitarian nature of the intervention, which is said to aim at preventing a massacre of pro-democracy forces and human rights advocates by the Qaddafi regime.

The rebels are clearly not civilians, but an armed force. What kind of an armed force?

Since many of the rebel leaders are so difficult to research from afar, and since a sociological profile of the rebels cannot be done on the ground in the midst of warfare, perhaps the typical methods of social history can be called on for help. Is there a way for us to gain deeper insight into the climate of opinion which prevails in such northeastern Libyan cities as Benghazi, Tobruk, and Darnah, the main population centers of the rebellion?

It turns out that there is, in the form of a December 2007 West Point study examining the background of foreign guerrilla fighters — jihadis or mujahedin, including suicide bombers — crossing the Syrian border into Iraq during the 2006-2007 timeframe, under the auspices of the international terrorist organization Al Qaeda. This study is based on a mass of about 600 Al Qaeda personnel files which were captured by US forces in the fall of 2007, and analyzed at West Point using a methodology which we will discuss after having presented the main findings. The resulting study1 permits us to make important findings about the mentality and belief structures of the northeastern Libyan population that is furnishing the basis for the rebellion, permitting important conclusions about the political nature of the anti-Qaddafi revolt in these areas.

Darnah, northeast Libya: World Capital of Jihadis

The most striking finding which emerges from the West Point study is that the corridor which goes from Benghazi to Tobruk, passing through the city of Darnah (also transliterated as Derna) them represents one of the greatest concentrations of jihadi terrorists to be found anywhere in the world, and by some measures can be regarded as the leading source of suicide bombers anywhere on the planet. Darnah, with one terrorist fighter sent into Iraq to kill Americans for every 1,000 to 1,500 persons of population, emerges as suicide bomber heaven, easily surpassing the closest competitor, which was Riyad, Saudi Arabia.

...

According to West Point authors Joseph Felter and Brian Fishman, Saudi Arabia took first place as regards absolute numbers of jihadis sent to combat the United States and other coalition members in Iraq during the time frame in question. Libya, a country less than one fourth as populous, took second place. Saudi Arabia sent 41% of the fighters. According to Felter and Fishman, “Libya was the next most common country of origin, with 18.8% (112) of the fighters listing their nationality stating they hailed from Libya.” Other much larger countries were far behind: “Syria, Yemen, and Algeria were the next most common origin countries with 8.2% (49), 8.1% (48), and 7.2% (43), respectively. Moroccans accounted for 6.1% (36) of the records and Jordanians 1.9% (11).”

This means that almost one fifth of the foreign fighters entering Iraq across the Syrian border came from Libya, a country of just over 6 million people. A higher proportion of Libyans were interested in fighting in Iraq than any other country contributing mujahedin. Felter and Fishman point out: “Almost 19 percent of the fighters in the Sinjar Records came from Libya alone. Furthermore, Libya contributed far more fighters per capita than any other nationality in the Sinjar Records, including Saudi Arabia.” (See the chart from the West Point report, page 9)

...

But since the Al Qaeda personnel files contain the residence or hometown of the foreign fighters in question, we can determine that the desire to travel to Iraq to kill Americans was not evenly distributed across Libya, but was highly concentrated precisely in those areas around Benghazi which are today the epicenters of the revolt against Colonel Gaddafi which the US, Britain, France, and others are so eagerly supporting.

As Daya Gamage of the Asia Tribune comments in a recent article on the West Point study, “…alarmingly for Western policymakers, most of the fighters came from eastern Libya, the center of the current uprising against Muammar el-Qaddafi. The eastern Libyan city of Darnah sent more fighters to Iraq than any other single city or town, according to the West Point report. It noted that 52 militants came to Iraq from Darnah, a city of just 80,000 people (the second-largest source of fighters was Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which has a population of more than 4 million). Benghazi, the capital of Libya’s provisional government declared by the anti-Qaddafi rebels, sent in 21 fighters, again a disproportionate number of the whole.”4 Obscure Darnah edged out metropolitan Riyadh by 52 fighters to 51. Qaddafi’s stronghold of Tripoli, by contrast, barely shows up in the statistics at all. (See chart from West Point report, page 12)

What explains this extraordinary concentration of anti-American fighters in Benghazi and Darnah? The answer seems related to extremist schools of theology and politics which flourished in these areas. As the West Point report notes: “Both Darnah and Benghazi have long been associated with Islamic militancy in Libya.” These areas are in theological and tribal conflict with the central government of Colonel Gaddafi, in addition to being politically opposed to him. Whether such a theological conflict is worth the deaths of still more American and European soldiers is a question which needs urgently to be answered.

America finally meets its match, maybe. Light said light v dark.

It might be an interesting little show of weapons. America's got them, Russia's got them, but didn't they have a treaty to keep the same number of nuclear weapons and dispose of the rest? Syria's got them, China's got them, the UK has some, Pakistan has them, Israel has heaps.

It's like going back to the excitement of cracker night and the kids form two gangs and pool their heavy artillery for the big fight.

America is salivating for an all in war.

Let the fun begin!

America are funny. They helped form the UN, then when they don't get their own way they go it alone.......again. All geared up and ready for the next invasion. The Bush Doctrine stated that "if we don't like you, we will fight you".

Any guesses as to who's next after Syria. Could it be their neighbours? America will never have the guts to go up against Iran.

America are just not learning. Are they getting dumber or bolder?

They have admitted they are at war with Pakistan. See link

US post-Assad Syria plan: Intervention in the cards?

Hillary Clinton has put forward a new plan to remove Syrian president Bashar al-Assad from power. Echoing recent US threats to take action on Syria independently of the UN, the plan’s announcement coincides with yet another tragic massacre.
As the violence in Syria worsens, Washington has been ramping up threats to intervene without UN approval in the absence of international consensus. US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, speaking to reporters after the Houla massacre, bluntly called on the UN Security Council to “assume its responsibilities”, saying that if the violence continues, “then members of this council and members of the international community are left with the option only of having to consider whether they’re prepared to take actions outside of the Annan plan and the authority of this council.”
“This council has a responsibility to act and act swiftly and surely,” Rice said. “And if we don’t, then we are all resigning ourselves to a third scenario, which we still hope to avoid.”
Now, as reports of a new massacre emerge from Syria, State Secretary Hillary Clinton has announced a new transition plan that would remove Assad from power completely, possibly signaling the US is ready to make good on its threats to go it alone.
In Istanbul, a meeting was held on the sidelines of the Coordination Committee of the Global Counterterrorism summit with top representatives from Turkey, France, the UK and Arab nations on Wednesday. Conspicuously absent were representatives from Russia and China, the two biggest opponents of foreign intervention in Syria. During the meeting, Hillary Clinton outlined a peace plan for Syria which included a full removal of Assad from power. The US State Department sees Syria without Assad as a prerequisite to any solution to the crisis, a position that Russia and China oppose.
“Tonight the secretary laid out a set of essential elements and principles which we believe should guide that post-Assad transition strategy, including Assad's full transfer of power," a US State Department official told reporters in Turkey.
The proposal completely ignores Kofi Annan’s six-point peace plan, approved by the UN and the international community. The plan, which called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, a Syrian-led dialogue to resolve the crisis, unrestricted access to humanitarian aid, and freedom of movement for journalists has been the only proposed solution that has met with Russian and Chinese approval. However, its effectiveness has been questioned, with neither the opposition nor Assad adhering to it.
Russia and China have steadfastly opposed any foreign intervention in Syria and support the Annan plan, repeating their position together at this week’s Russia-China political summit in Beijing.

Don't believe everything that Barack and Hillary tell you about Syria. How much were these naughty rebels paid to con the western press?

Syrian rebels tried to get reporter killed in anti-Assad propaganda bid – report

Journalist Alex Thomson reports that Syrian rebels set him and his crew up to be killed by Syrian troops in a bid to show Damascus in a negative light.
Thomson, a chief correspondent for Channel 4 news, says he and his group were deliberately given incorrect directions by a group of Syrian rebels. As a result, their car entered a free-fire zone, where the road ahead was blocked off, and started receiving shots presumably fired by the Syrian army, who thought the vehicle belonged to rebels.
“Suddenly four men in a black car beckon us to follow,” he wrote on the channel’s website. “We move out behind. We are led another route. Led in fact, straight into a free-fire zone. Told by the Free Syrian Army to follow a road that was blocked off in the middle of no-man’s land."
They then tried to escape the attack by driving onto a nearby side-street, but it turned out to be dead end. Eventually, they returned to the road where the group of rebels had seen them off.
“Predictably the black car was there which had led us to the trap. They roared off as soon as we re-appeared,” Thomson noted.
Thomson said he was sure the rebels were eager to get him and his crew killed in order to have the international community blame Damascus for the death of Western reporters.
“I’m quite clear the rebels deliberately set us up to be shot by the Syrian army. Dead journos are bad for Damascus,” he stated.
Thomson’s mission to Syria was unique in a way, as he was reporting on both sides of the conflict, interviewing both Assad loyalists and rebels. In fact, he was in the country on a legal visa, issued by the Syrian government.
The reported incident comes just days after as many as 78 people were killed in the village of Mazraat al-Qubair in the Hama province. UN monitors that tried to asses the massacre were shot at.
‘Both sides involved in very dirty tactics’
RT did an extensive interview with Thomson on the details of his ordeal, and the situation in the country in general.

US destabilizes Syria to safeguard Israeli interests: Iran Cmdr.

...

A senior Iranian commander says the United States seeks to destabilize Syria in an attempt to safeguard Israel’s interests in the Middle East.

“By using the assistance of some of the regional countries and one of Syria’s Muslim neighbors and dispatching armed mercenaries and terrorists, they (the Americans) intend to bring the Wahhabis to power in Syria,” said Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi on Saturday.

“In this way, the US and the Zionist regime seek to bring a new hope for existence to the evading Zionists,” he added.

Firouzabadi pointed out that the Syrian nation will not be deceived by such US plots and it will not surrender the country to Israel.

In late May, a media report revealed that US-led Western countries and their Arab puppets are plotting to use the Lebanese soil to destabilize neighboring Syria.

According to the exposed plot, the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood in the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli should be attacked by the US and Saudi-backed Wahhabi forces from all sides to mislead the public opinion and involve the Lebanese army in the region.

By pushing the Lebanese army towards Tripoli, the northern part of the country would be ready for anti-Syrian forces to be deployed, the sources said.

Another report had earlier said the US aims to create small protected areas in Lebanon and use them as military training camps to be used by al-Qaeda and the Syrian opposition.

Also other informed sources revealed in late May that Jordanian ruler King Abdullah II allowed the US troops to train hundreds of members of the so-called Free Syrian Army along with Jordanian forces in order to prepare them for participating in an international military drill in the country.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011 and many people, including hundreds of security forces, have been killed in the unrest.

While the West and the Syrian opposition say the government is responsible for the violence, Damascus blames "outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups" for the unrest and insists that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
