Record low interest rates
Jun 1st, 2012 at 4:35pm

Westpac is predicting record low interest rates by the end of the year so by neocon standards that should mean Australia's economy is the best its ever been or could the Libs get rates even lower as they have claimed before the last two elections.

No it means many different things. If it were that easy, the Americans would be laughing.

Maybe liberals should have said, if you were closest to being financially responsible, then the interest rates would be lower under a coalition government.

Low interest rates mean poor management by gov.

High interest rates  mean poor management by gov.

The simpletons think that interest rates are an INDICATOR. They are rather a LEVER of economic policy. High interest rates can be sign of a good or bad economy depending on how the rest of the economy. Otherwise the USA 0% rates would indicate an economy that is booming while our 2007 high rates would suggest that we were in dire straits except it was the reverse. Low interest rates normally are indicative of low inflation which is either the result of a recessionary or stagnant economy OR one wheere growth is consistent and in the right band.

try again adelcrow... obviously the groundwater seeped into your brainpan on your last trip up north.

Actually interest rates would be lower under a coalition because they would have driven us into recession with their lack of economic stimulus after 2008. We'd be in the same boat as the US.

So it is a true statement. Of course, now they are saying low interest rates are a bad thing.  You cant win.

Now that has been my point for a long time now. The simpletons that bought the crap from the libs for years about interest rates are now confused as to what the hell it actually all ment.

I, as apposed to most disagree with the idea that interest rates will stay down. With the collapse of the european situation and the Chinese slowing we will see an easing of commodities prices and a weakening in the underlying economic position of the country. Our wage and price inflation will begin to become an issue and will require interest rates to be raised to combate the inflation genie. Get ready for the roller coaster folks, particularly when Abbott and Hockey get the keys, it will be out of control.

Empirical evidence says liberal got us out of debt, into surplus and financially responsible. Empirical evidence tells us labor cant get us into surplus, puts us into debt and this labor government has put us into debt never seen before. They have a chance for a surplus but never will. They will leave us in debt so huge, my kids will be paying for it. Come GFC2, my kids kids will be paying for this labor government.

Come on election, so we can get a liberal financially responsible government when we nee it. That's all the time considering labor and its empirical evidence.
