Bloody hell! are we going to use that tired old WWII blabber for the next 100 years? Is that all America has done in the last 65 years to beat it's chest for?
Well, that is a pretty awesome accomplishment. And I wouldn't say it was a case of us saving you so much as it was a case of you being nice enough to let us hunker down a lot of troops, ships, aircraft, and logistics there while simultaneously helping us crack IJN cyphers and all manner of fun stuff. With out Australia the entire US Island Hopping campaign concept would have been a good bit more difficult as Australia made such a perfect staging area for invading the entire South Pacific.

Maybe it's time you got into the 21st century. The war is done and dusted, history so to speak. We trade with Germany and Japan for bugger sake, were all good buddies.
Turns out we do trade with both nations as well. We're not wanting bases down there or docking rights or any of that fun stuff because we're afraid Japan might start a ruckus again. We don't even really want it as a means to threaten China (you're actually to far away from China to be of use for that for anything other than parking bombers and refueling aircraft and we've got plenty of places to do that already).
Instead we'd like it because your neighbors in Malaysia and Indonesia make us a tad nervous and Western Australia provides a perfect position to choke off shipping routes between the Pacific and Indian Oceans (we're all about controlling the high seas).
And we bring gifts as well...
Let's say the US got to build an air base down there. We'd have to lease the land from your government (that's going to cost anywhere from half a billion to several billion over a decade in rent monies we'd pay you). Then we'd end up hiring a lot of Australians for a lot of post services, providing hundred or even thousands of jobs to the local economy. Speaking of the local economy, now they get several hundred to several thousand US servicemen with money in their pockets and the only place to spend any of it is at local businesses. We'd also give an open invitation to the Australian military to come and use the post facilities for training, saving the Australian tax payer a lot of money by not having to pay for such facilities yourselves or move your military units to the US to train with us.
THen there's the really fun part about hosting a US military base.,the thing that effectively means your country never has to worry about being invaded ever again. You're hosting a nation that operates the single largest strategic nuclear deterrent force in the world and that nation has a tradition of asking the host nation if they'd like a few nuclear weapons to hold onto under a sharing agreement which would make Australia a de facto nuclear power. Hell, you don't even need any new equipment to do the nuclear delivery mission since you've got aircraft in your inventory that are rated for the B-61 and B-83 nuclear bombs.
All in all, you get to never worry about being invaded, a bucket of money, you save money on your own national defense spending, and you might even get the ability to turn your neighbors into smoking craters if they get to uppity. In return we get a military base in a very good strategic location. It's a win/win.
