Securing the borders of the nation is the Governments responsibility and they have all the power and mandate they need to protect the citizens of this country from invasion.   Cool

Typical of the leftards to say big whoop over a billion dollar per year debacle they created.

Boat people, i.e. legal asylum seekers, form part of Australia's humanitarian immigration program.

I certainly don't see humanitarianism as a "debacle".

Anyone who does, has some serious issues.

I think you're seriously overestimating them, Uncle Meat. I think if you even know the word humanitarianism you're considered one of those noxious bleeding hearts.

No doubt you profit handsomely from invasion and it suits you to cloke evil in flowery platitudes. Cool

It seems you don't understand what immigration is.

Immigration is not "invasion".

Boat people (legal asylum seekers) form part of Australia's humanitarian program, within the immigration system.

These people are welcomed by Australia, thus your mention of "invasion" really is quite preposterous.

I'm guessing Andrew Bolt is the one causing you confusion.

Stay away from Bolty and talk-back radio and you might actually learn something useful.

Actually, they aren't part of our immigration program. The people that ARE part of our humanitarian/immigration program have applied through the proper channels and more often than not they will lose their spot to a queue-jumping illegal immigrant who arrives onboard a people smuggling boat. Why do REAL asylum seekers miss out? Because this country has a quota that sets how many people we will take in during a given year. Your arguments, as laid out in your post, show a breathtaking lack of understanding of this issue - the kind of Michael Moore, 6th-grade logic that got us into this mess in the first place!

Immigration is one thing, border subversion and invasion is another.  What we have is invasion and what we have is invaders making themselves welcome, not being welcomed.    This is a forced invasion we have no choice in. Cool

By the way, Uncle Meat, these country-shopping, queue-jumping illegal immigrants are NOT welcome in this country. Why do you think Labor said prior to the last election they would stop the boats? If they were welcome, wouldn't they have said they'd assist the boats?

A sixth people smuggling boat has been intercepted this week by the Navy carrying 84 people. At this rate, Gillard will be kicking ordinary Aussies out of their own homes to accomodate these country-shopping illegal immigrants! Both Gillard and Bowen must hang their heads in shame over their complete failure to secure our borders. One must wonder when will Labor wake up and realise that:

(a) The Labor Party created this mess
(b) There is
no one
to blame for this mess other than themselves
(c) The only option available to them is to resurrect the Pacific Solution in order to smash the business model of people smugglers

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/navy-intercepts-sixth-boat-in-a-week/story...

But the pacific solution didnt work did it?

SOB

There were 4 boat people in detention when labor dismantled the policy that stopped the boats.

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7401/boats.gif

The detention centre statistics prove it worked yet the ignorant leftists ignore these facts as there were less than 500 people in detention from January 06 to January 09 compared to the 6000+ we have today.

http://www.immi.gov.au/managing-australias-borders/detention/_pdf/immigration-de...

Labor created this billion dollar a year debacle and they cannot fix it because the Greens want an open border policy which is exactly what we have.

*sigh* It'd be nice if people posting charts here could actually understand what it is they are posting up.

See your chart there rorty? See how in 1992 mandatory detention started? What happened between 1992 and 2001? We went from SFA to over 5,500 per year. Are you saying mandatory detention attracted refugees? You better explain to us how that works in your alternate reality.

When you finish explaining that one then please explain this one:

...

You will notice how asylum seeker numbers 2000-2010 dropped right across the OECD at around the same time that they dropped in Australia. YOU claim that Australia's drop in numbers was due to the Pacific Solution.
Explain to me how the Pacific Solution reduced asylum seeker numbers across the OECD.

If you can't then the Pacific Solution wasn't the cause of Australia's drop in numbers any more than for the OECD. So the Pacific Solution did nothing except move a LOT of money from Australia to Nauru for no good reason.

100% incorrect.

Would you like to try again?

Boat people, seeking asylum, form part of the Immigration Department's humanitarian program.

Furthermore, they are going through the proper channels.

You really should learn something about Australia's immigration program before you make these ridiculous posts.

Last year the majority of Australians wanted boat people processed onshore. The relentless propaganda against boat people, including the deliberate ploy of labeling them illegals, might have changed our perceptions somewhat, but we as a whole are a nobler people than you suggest.

Quote:
A MAJORITY of voters believe asylum seekers should be processed onshore, defying the policies of the government and the opposition which are fighting over which offshore destination to send boat arrivals.

The latest Herald/Nielsen poll finds 54 per cent of voters believe asylum seekers arriving by boat should be allowed to land in Australia to be assessed.

Just 25 per cent say they should be sent to another country to be assessed while 16 per cent believe the boats should be ''sent back'' and 4 per cent don't know.

They are not queue jumpers.  People don't join a queue in order to become an asylum seeker.

And, they are not illegal immigrants.  Not sure why you don't understand these facts.

They are invaders, you do not speak for the native born people of this land, only for the invaders. Cool

Incorrect.

Boat people, arriving unannounced, form part of Australia's immigration program.

All perfectly legal, and certainly not an invasion.

Furthermore, the 1951 UN Convention and the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights ensures that they are welcome.

Partially correct - THOSE people don't. It's the poor souls who apply through the proper channels who are in queue and usually miss out to those who come by boat. You have a serious inability to sort fact from fiction. But that's what one would expect from a Leftard, so I guess we can't hold it against you and will continue to right your wrongs for you.

No, they are asylum seekers.

I suggest you buy either a dictionary, or an education.

Whichever one you choose, please make it fast.

Your inability to understand this simple fact is quite astonishing.

Show me. Where does one apply? I want to see the forms that need to be filled. I want to see the desk where I join the queue. Where are they? Can you show them to me? Perhaps a list of people who are in this queue. Can you show me that?
