We all get annoyed and do a bit of name calling, never mind. But in the last few days the threads have turned toxic, and in particular the racist and bigoted banter. I don't know if people think it funny to stir up this kind of feeling but it is appalling and denigrates all of us on this form. I feel sick when i read some of the race hate and intolerance that claim to be Australian. You are all far from Australian and need to look deep within yourselves and consider are you using you anonymity to express opinions you would not argue face to face because you know how repugnant they are.
Why are topics of race automatically deemed as racist or bigoted? These are legitimate topics and have real concerns. If there is a certain race or nationality of people who is incompatible with liberal democracy then it is perfectly acceptable to point that out. There was a poster the other day (Adlecrow) who was sprouting the platitudes of "equality" and "tolerance," but when I pointed out that some cultures have no time for this, he/she couldn't accept it and just resorted to irrelevant off the cuff remarks.
It is also paramount to highlight that adding "ist" on to the end of a word does not amount to any form of reasoned argument. It really just becomes a word equal to that of "c*cksucker," "bugger," or something else derogatory that in no way explains the issue under consideration.
Being offended is in no way an argument in itself. Everyone gets offended from time to time. Why should one person's "offence" be deemed more important than another's? I know that leftist types are effeminate in character so that explains why they're perpetually offended, but again, that's no argument.
Positions need a thesis statement and then evidence and/or augmentation that attempts to prove the thesis statement true. Saying "racist" doesn't cut it.
WOW, what an amazing outburst. Are you feeling sensitive about what you may have said in the past?
As you say there needs to be proof and reason to an argument, of which there is rarely any at all and none in what you have said. So let's see, here are two comments where do you think they lie in the scheme of things.
1. those muslims are all rapists and terrorists and we don't want them.
2. the people from that country have suffered great oppression and war so may need help to make the
transition into our way of life.
One accuses these people of something with no point or evidence. A head line might be referenced but has nothing to do with real fact or reason as to the crime. the other points out that due to hardships faced that we are all aware of , we may need to be aware of issues they might face in making a successful transition to our way of life. They are big differences but they both raise questions based on race or religion.
