its deteriorating to the point of being scary.

at least this didnt happen in longys day.

I agree with you cods, that is disgusting. The problem is when people get banned, like longweekend did last week they come back with a sock, like longweekend did last week. This time I'd say the person that wrote that is corporate whitey who is often banned, or matty who has also been banned recently. What we need to have done is peoples IP address needs to be banned, not just the user name, that is why they manage to post here while they are banned.

I dont understand how you know all these people have been banned??????..and how you pick them as using another ID....

I have found the political board has deteriorated in recent times..not blaming anyone in particular...its just that if it isnt pointed out .. then it will continue will it not? and some enjoy stooping to as low as they can get.

I wont name them, but we can remove the swearing and the name calling like paedo..

but what about content..some of it is more than bad?

Yeah. I used to. But that was when ppl had static ips. Really now its a lottery. I cant even ban the spammer ips cause they use same isps as us.

You're right, almost everyone has a dynamic address these days. Banning by IP address is pointless.

BUT!

The address you get will stay with you for as long as you have a connection to the ISP. It'll often even survive short dropouts. So how often does your ADSL modem reconnect to the ISP? Not often. Most people tend to have the same IP address for many, many days, possibly weeks or months.

When a sock starts to post crud, it isn't hard to check what other posters have used that IP address. If there's a match with a banned poster then the sock can be banned immediately. This isn't a sure-fired solution (and yes, there are ways around it) but it'd provide some measures.

I am with iinet and my IP changes every 2-3 days whether i am online or not (and i usually am which is infinitely annoying). iinet is pretty big ISP i cant be the only one.

SOB

I'm on Big-Puddle wireless, and I get a new IP simply by re-booting the router.

Which I end up having to do several times a day....Sad

Another poster reported that it showed his location to be 1000 light years from where he thought he was.

That seems bizarre. Yet, now that you mention it I haven't really checked since I got swapped to my current ISP (also iinet). I'll have to see if they're doing the same thing to me.

My IP has changed twice this morning and its only 9:20. I hope this is not the new trend or I will have to change ISPS.

Are you talking about the IP address for your computer or for your modem? If your modem is constantly getting new addresses then it sounds like the modem keeps losing connection to the ISP and then re-establishes. When that happens it'll get a new address. This could mean a bad line or a faulty filter on the line. You might need a techo to come and check it out.

No I had it out with them on the phone and they said they change my IP every few days. They said I have a dynamic IP so I have to suck it up. Really its the height of bad manners to change the IP when you are online and logged into things. Argh. Anyway I dunno why it happened twice this morning. Hasnt happened again so I will wait and see.

Find a programmer and reach for the stars: it's a great idea that I'm sure is a technical nightmare but you know what they said: WHAT'S POSSIBLE IS DONE. WHATS IMPOSSIBLE WILL BE DONE!

  Wink Wink

IT'S A POWERFUL IDEA ALRIGHT: IMAGINE IT'S USABILITY AND,... IT WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE FORUMS WORTH VISITING MATE IT IS THAT GRAND OF AN IDEA!

"O DIVINE ART OF SUBTLETY"(The Art of War!!)

Then, now the world could actually bother with forums as the troll problem would be under complete control, democracy might flourish and what then...

Buddy, you owe the world this gift!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Just don't forget to pay the rent  Wink

Always plenty of programmers looking for projects to enhance their skills/cut their teeth btw!  Cool

Actually there was a dood who invented some software and now he gives advice to people about patents.

An aussie bloke who's software, about what I can't remember, was used by Microsoft and he had to enforce his rights and won I'm pretty sure.

It was on ABC or something a few weeks back!

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked he might be worth talking to becoz this is exactly where Australians are supposed to get scammed big time!!

I wouldn't join a forum like that. Stifles discussion. 1 thread for each opinion.
