Illegal immigrants and open borders = cheap labor costs, no business protection for Australia and mega free welfare for corporate maggots & brown nosers. Roll Eyes

Nobody in this thread is supporting illegal immigrants.

You do seem to support third world losers though.
Tell them to bugger off and go somewhere else.

No.

I simply support everyone's right to legally claim asylum.

If they turn out to be non-genuine "losers", send them home.

Well we can agree to disagree then.

I do not support allowing in anyone other than skilled migrants.
I do not support allowing in any asylum seekers who pass through a third country.

Q. How does it work?

A. As a host you would generally be required to provide the student with all their basic needs, including their own room, food and space to study.  Over the period of their time together the host assists the student to become familiar with the local area and customs in a relaxed and friendly household setting. The student is also encouraged to share with the host information about their home country and culture. This interaction is what makes homestay ideal for students and hosts looking for a unique cultural experience.

your quoting from the current system and not the new system for boat people. but as for them learning our culture is not going to happen because of the language barrier the majority of those taking in these people will be others from the same region.

buzzanddidj wrote on May 3rd, 2012 at 12:47pm:

Q. How much do I get paid?

The student pays a weekly fee to cover management and supervision costs, insurance, 24/7 emergency support services and to also reimburse the host for day to day food and accommodation expenses support. This fee varies from State to State and generally ranges from $ 220 to $300 per week. The host receives approximately 85% of this fee to reimburse them for day to day expenses.

This income is tax free (non assessable)  for up to 2 students being hosted

And again quoting from the student system not the boat people system. but does it say how much food you have to feed them? will bread and water be enough to count as feeding them or is it an all you can eat situation for boat people?

It's a THREE WAY benefit

1. It gives Australians the opportunity to MEET, KNOW and BEFRIEND a refugee

as i said before the majority of those taking in people will only be those from simular backgrounds

buzzanddidj wrote on May 3rd, 2012 at 12:47pm:

2. It give a refugee an easier path in fitting in to a culture, alien to them

Not when the people taking them in are from the same background

buzzanddidj wrote on May 3rd, 2012 at 12:47pm:

3. It reduces the MILLIONS spent on prison costs by the taxpayer

cost to the people is unknown as the increases in boat people arriving is increasing every day.

Can I ask what you people would do if Australia, America, England etc. Were to become uninhabitable for some reason?

Would you expect other nations to help you, give you shelter, food and water?

Or would you expect them to let you die?

"for some reason"?

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Sri Lanka are not suffering from natural disasters but from the disaster called Pakistanis, Afghans, Persians, Sri Lankans. The people are the disaster.

So this means that people not causing the disaster cannot leave?

OECD praise for Canberra's stimulus package

Tim Colebatch
September 17, 2009.

THE Federal Government has won glowing support for its controversial economic stimulus
, with the Western world's leading think tank saying the strategy will save up to 200,000 jobs.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's annual employment outlook says Australia will be one of the Western countries to suffer least in the global financial crisis.
And it says the Government's stimulus has already had a strong effect in cushioning the downturn,
undermining Opposition attacks on the size of the program
.

Its data shows Australia spends just 0.01 per cent of GDP on training its unemployed - the equal lowest in the OECD along with Mexico and the Czech and Slovak republics.

They show
the Howard government cut spending on active labour market programs in its last two years as the skills shortage became more acute.

By contrast, the OECD report singles out the Rudd Government's stimulus measures for praise.

It estimates Australia's stimulus has been the third largest in the Western world at 5.4 per cent of GDP, exceeded only by Korea (6.1) and the US (5.7).

''Even though many countries moved quickly to enact large fiscal stimulus packages, these packages generally have not had a strong effect in cushioning the initial decline in employment caused by the crisis, although
Australia is a notable exception
,'' it says.

Drop in asylum claims defies rising global trend

Michael Gordon
March 28, 2012.

...

Australia defied the global trend and recorded a 9 per cent drop in asylum seeker claims last year, supporting the United Nations refugee agency's assertion that the numbers coming to this country are modest and ''certainly manageable'' when compared with other industrialised countries.

The UNHCR said the drop, from 12,640 arrivals in 2010 to 11,510 last year, was in contrast to an increase in asylum seeker claims in all other industrialised regions - including an 87 per cent jump in southern Europe.

While the number of Afghans seeking asylum in the industrialised world was up 34 per cent - with most applications being lodged in Europe - Australia recorded a 45 per cent drop in Afghan applications.

The agency said the drop was largely due to a fall in boat arrivals and urged the Gillard government to focus on making asylum seekers feel safer in south-east Asian transit countries so there was less incentive to risk their lives on boat trips to Australia.
