Gillard hasn't done any better than Rudd and has more than likely made things worse after offering to put these country-shoppers up with Australian families. Howard had the solution to this problem, Labor wrecked it and created this mess. It's up to them to dig their own way out of the hole they got themselves into.

The boat people are not after protection (=asylum. Offer them temporary protection, aka asylum, and see them go apeshit). They want permanent settlement (aka immigration).
