But the graph shows those who have qualified as "asylum seekers"

ILLEGAL BOAT arrivals are not part of that figure because they are classified as ILLEGALS.

As I have continually repeated - Pacific Solution was not targeted at legitimate Asylum seekers. It's targeted at ILLEGAL BOAT arrivals.

Clearly the LIBs got it right!

The chart shows the number of boats entering Australia carrying asylum seekers.

The number of boats entering Australia illegally is a much broader figure. For instance, Indonesian fishing vessels entering Australian waters can be entering illegally. The boats can be impounded and the crew can be detained. There are no asylum seekers involved. Sail boats carrying their owners can sail here from NZ or the US or anywhere else in the world. If they don't comply with our laws they can  be entering illegally. They can be subject to fines, impounding and probably the crew can also be detained. No asylum seekers there.

So... you tell me... how many Indonesian fishing crew, how many NZ or other sailors did the Pacific Solution detain? None wasn't it?

The Pacific Solution ONLY detained asylum seekers arriving by boat. And those boats are shown in my chart. And that chart has the same curves as the OECD chart. Which shows that the Pacific Solution did nothing - asylum seeker arrivals (whether by boat or not) was part of a worldwide trend.

The only thing the Libs got right was in finding a way to pay lots of money to Nauru for absolutely nothing.

Okay, lets say you're right. Howard's policy cost about $100m per year and stopped the boats virtually completely whereas Gillard's policy costs us 10 times that at more than $1bn per year and has seen more than 300 boats and 17,000 people on them arrive. I think that - by any standard - the best policy of the two was Howard's and the worst was by far Gillard's. If you are incapable or unwilling to comprehend something that is so simple and straightfoward, you desperately need some help.

NO, NO, NO!
The drop in asylum seekers at that time was world wide!!!

Try reading what I wrote.

The Pacific Solution did nothing! If you want to claim that Howard "stopped the boats" then you HAVE TO explain how it did that in the Mediterranean.

So - can you? Do you even understand the question??

There's a reason why it's called the "Pacific" Solution.

If it's meant to stop the boats in Europe then it would be called??.......
