Foreign Minister Bob Carr has dismissed the Peter Slipper scandal as "a temporary federal issue" that is of no interest internationally.

Senator Carr is in the US this week to meet with officials from the Obama administration, as well as senior politicians.

He met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday.

Senator Carr said the current scandal surrounding the former Liberal turned independent MP did not affect talks with US officials.

"No one is remotely interested in that here in the United States," Mr Carr told ABC Television on Wednesday.

He predicted it would be business as usual for the federal government, once the scandal died down.

"This government, I predict, will continue to get its legislation through ... and beyond these temporary federal issues of the day in Canberra, we want to see the big picture, and the big work being done for the future of this nation."

Mr Slipper stood aside as Speaker at the weekend, pending a possible criminal investigation into allegations he misused taxpayer-funded Cabcharge vouchers.

Washington are too busy worrying about what country they should invade net to worry about an insignificant sex scandal in Australia of all places.

You must remember that half the world doesn't even know that Australia exists. Remember what happens when we try to throw our weight around on the world stage? We get the door slammed in our face.

I dont think its muckraking.. if you are talking about that then take a look at what they have printed about Ashbys past...and he is a victim here..

when you put yourself in high places.. then expect the worst when you dont play by the rules..

all I know is if I had a member of my family that was accused of the things this person is accused of.. I would be devastated..

untrustworthy and intimidating using his position to threaten...not nice at all.. and to think hands in the till doesnt matter on top of that.. makes me cringe even more.

We 'sucked up' Clinton and Lewinski because Clinton was the President of the United States of America and Australia. When your overlord gets caught with his pants down, it's newsworthy and relevant for the people under his control.
