The definition of 'fast broadband'?!!?
Apr 20th, 2012 at 5:02pm

Um, we'll set the rules at only one definition per person!

Um, I reserve my right to give my answer (because I only get one remember  Wink ) in good time.

100Mbps+. They are talking about 1Gb/s by 2025.  Actually I'd consider anything above 24Mbps (ADSL2+) to be fast broadband at the moment, but there is no strict definition of "fast broadband". I'm quite happy to get 8Mbps here in rural Queensland using conventional ADSL 2.

At that speed, you can watch streaming HDTV (up to 1080p) without any stops or starts. The limitation always seems to be on upload speed.

You can check your internet speed here (using the mirror that's closest to you):
http://www.ozspeedtest.com/bandwidth-test/
Ignore the message about your Windows registry being slow. I get that message too even though I'm using Linux. I think it's a ploy to part you of your well-earned cash.

I get 13.35Mb/s at the moment. What do others get?

I get:

Quote:
Your line speed is 2.41 Mbps (2413 kbps).
Your download speed is 302 KB/s (0.29 MB/s).

I am too far from a node to get the full 20 Mbps.
The highest I ever got was 3.2 Mbps.

If you're paying for ADSL2+ and just getting 3.2Mbps, you're being ripped off.  You should be getting at least 8Mbps.

NICE, SO YOU WOULD DEFINE IT AS 24Mbps?

Just trying to get a single answer from each contributor otherwise this thread will go down as all the other titatanics!!! (Whilst appreciating it is difficult to give a definitive answer, this indecisiveness being a defense mechansism born of these days of disgusting greed and attacking behaviour from every tryhard white boy or girl on the block!!)  Huh Huh Huh Huh  Cheesy

I can't get any faster from this location.
It depends on your distance from the nearest hub or telephone exchange.

We should be world leaders  ... were not even in the same game
