That would be a "No" quite obviously.
Or perhaps "Yes" depending on your perspective.
Either way RED if no CO2 is used in production that means no CO2 tax

Are people to dumb to put sum solar cells on their roof?
If they consume as much electricity as they are claiming the cells will pay for themselves in a year and they will never have to pay 1 cent in carbon tax on their power bills.

I am not sure you are aware of startup costs for full independance from the grid, the life span of the cells, the overall payback amount with and without tarrifs.

It is not a cheap exersice.

You can have a solar system stuck on your roof for under $2000.
The prices plummeted after the govt rebate was scraped.

Can't do that, I'm renting.

But a little petrol generator is becoming more appealing and economical by the day.

Cut your use of electricity by the corresponding amount of the carbon tax and spend the compensation on a holiday.
Its not rocket science

Can't be done.

Single bloke, running the minimum of electrical appliances.

NO plasma, NO A/C. Only ever one room occupied at a given time.

Appliances/lights etc all energy-efficient.

Gas heating.

There is NOTHING that I can cut.

Nothing.

In fact, I'm sitting here typing this in the dark, using the backlit keyboard......
