Beer-Sheva, Israel - "It is not every day that a government decides to relocate almost half a per cent of its population in a programme of forced urbanization."

Quote:
In some cases, Bedouin were already living where the town was built, but the large majority of the Bedouin were relocated once again and moved into these Bedouin-only towns. Some did it of their own volition, while others were forced. The price that most families had to pay for their own displacement was hefty: renouncing the right to large portions of their land and giving up their rural way of life.

For many years following the establishment of each town, the Bedouin residents were not allowed to hold democratic elections and their municipalities were run by Jewish officials from the Ministry of Interior. The towns also rapidly turned into over-crowded townships, with dilapidated infrastructure and hardly any employment opportunities. Currently, all seven townships, which are home to about 135,000 people, are ranked one on the Israeli socio-economic scale of one (lowest) to ten (highest), and are characterised by a high unemployment, high birth rates and third-rate education institutions.

Can anyone say 'ghetto?'

The Israelis should know better.

Many do. I've heard numerous Jews speak and write passionately about the sins of Zionism and the harm it is doing to the spirit of the Jewish people.

I'm not sure how much it's got to do with intelligence. Smart people can be incredibly ruthless.

My question for Avram is what influence does national service have on the political opinions of young Israelis.

Well someone who supports the war probably doesn’t have as much analytical intelligence as someone who doesn’t. But I wasn’t really trying to make a point on smart people.

It is a good question, did he answer?

Not yet. You'd think in that type of organization there must be a degree of indoctrination.

It is guaranteed,
An effective army needs indoctrination of hatred for the enemy, anger, oppressed emotion and even belittling by higher ranks.
In fact it’s actually a liability not to condition soldiers.
In ww1 and before it was worked out that a lot of soldiers would actually fire over the enemy because they did not want to kill a person.

There is no doubt that Avram has a high level of bias, it’s not his fault tho. Almost everyone has a bias for the place they grow up in, if they have been conditioned in an army this bias is even greater.

My apologize for late of response to your question but i was observe the Jewish Shabbat with extra day too for allowance of not be in Israel.

National services does have influence but this is not so because of what army is tell us but opinions is change because of experiences with Palestinians.

You know me, i grows up in Tel Aviv which is not so much in the troubles and is more peace. But when is national services i can be in Golan, West Bank, Gaze and so on so on.

Then i deals with Palestinians everyday and you know you has opinions change of peoples who throw rocks to you and try to shoot to you and also bring you into open air so is sniper shots.

Before maybe i has not much opinions on Palestinians so then after i start think they are not nice and they have so hatred to me for no reasons.

I am still not so strong of warlike opinions. I voted for Ehud Barak last time and he is more peace man than Netanyahu (he gets votes from many Russian imigrant to Israel and from Religion Orthodoxes).

But no the army is not political doctrine, there is no classes. You know that is why we do not have orthodox in the army because is they will not be able to be secular like i am.

So yes opinions is change but is more because of behavior of Palestinians to me than is army do or say.

And just when you think they couldn't go too far....

Anybody getting a great sense of irony out of all this?

So Israel plans on moving 30,000 Bedouin away from their primitive "villages" in the desert which have no amenities to government-authorized villages connected to power and water lines?

I can't see a problem here.
