Interesting to note, Froggie, maybe your system is so used to the flu shots and relies on it, whereas we have never had it an I truly do not want it, even if it is for free.
My mother is 85, and whenever she is urged by her doctor to have the flu shot, she then gets a very bad cold of some sort for weeks.
Now here is an interesting situation I will share that I was being very observant in as it was upsetting.
On Monday, we were still in Cairns, my husband was awoken by the knock on the sliding glass door for breakfast, by friends that were with us for the week holiday in Cairns, he got up to answer, but then seemed very bewildered, I was still half asleep and noticed his slight agitation as he didn't seem to have a clue where he was.
He asked 3 times in the span of a couple of minutes, if our friend had knocked on the door....it made me think, this is like dementia or alzheimers.....he asked what we did yesterday, and didn't remember it, asked what the car key was (near his walet) and I said we had a hire car for the last couple of days. He did not remember it.
I then asked him questions to see how far he had forgetting events in his life, and he could remember early February, everything up till that Monday was forgotten, including our son's engagement on 22nd March

He didn't know where we were, or what day or month it was. I showed him a photo on the dslr camera of a butterfly on his shoulder and he said "Nope, don't remember it".
I assisted him to the bathroom to prepare to get dressed, took him to breakfast, (as we passed the hire car, he pointed at it and said "that's the car!").
Had brekky, and then walked to the nearby Cairns Base Hospital and into emergency.
To cut a long story short, his memory was coming back in fragments and over the course of the day with all ct scans and x rays and blood tests (which found nothing 'remarkable').....his was remembering events in his life, except for that one hour from answering the door, to when we went to hospital. He has lost one hour of memory, which is better than a couple of months.
So here is the crunch, I learned about TBA and TIA, and the most prominent questions were (after they could not find the cause of it)....
Do you smoke?
Answer was no, never.
Are you on any medications?
Answer was no.
Have you had a flu injection? And my hubby and I looked at each other, and the answer was, no.
The reason that amazed us of that question was because, just the week before, he was offered a free flu injection at his work where he works part time, but I said
not to take it.
I would surmise, that if my husband had that flu shot, they would have put his 'episode' down to that reason, as he is a non smoker.
Those 2 questions stood out more than anything, by a couple of doctors and nurses asking questions.
BTW......they wanted us to stay for further tests, but we had flights booked to come back to Melbourne the next day, so with letter to our own doctor and CD with scans etc. We are now doing further testing over the course of the next few days.
Needless to say, I was worried sick, someone losing their memory is frightening.
Happy to say, I am badgering him with questions to ask if he remembers this that and the other

And yes, he remembers the car hire and the butterfly place etc.
