Political Religious Studies For Grown Ups

.

For some reason some believe the Greens and Religious thinking is not compatible ... if not, why not?

Perhaps those posters fearful of the Greens growth in political power would like to post and answer questions on religious/political topics.

To get discussions going.

How about debate over Jesus Being Gay or Bi. Do some worry that if this was wider known, it would undermine the christian hierarchy to make gay people bad so to pretend they are the goodies.

That's soooo 2011.  The edgier progressives have moved on from such mundane pronouncements:

Quote:
[I]t is not possible to assert with any degree of certainty that Jesus was male as we now define maleness. There is no way of knowing for sure that Jesus did not have one of the intersex conditions which would give him a body which appeared externally to be unremarkably male, but which might nonetheless have had some “hidden” female
physical features. He might have had ovarian as well as testicular tissue in his body.

That's right - in the absence of anything specifically stating that jesus didn't have a hidden womb, he therefore must be an "intersex".   Roll Eyes

Quote:
Genesis 2:15: And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Sounds to me like they were told to look after it.

Quote:
Genesis 1:28: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Dominion means to control or exercise control or sovereignty not to exploit, plunder or destroy.

I don't see any conflict between religion and "being green".

The word provides no guide as to the level of enforcment just that you have complete control. Which basically means its there for our explotation.

A few bible quotes:

6 Thou dost make him to rule over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

How does one rule over extinct species.

If impossible then would it be something the religious greenies could work on ...turning around the mass extinction currently occurring.

Could Greens grow Religious Greenies, as there are growing Gay Greenies.

Could Greens have a religious faction

They believe the earth is 10,000 years old, dinosaurs and the like didn’t exist to them.

Yes a religious person can obviously believe anything..
Just shows mass ignorance on their behalf to believe one thing and then do something completely contradictorily to that belief.

That is painting all religionists as anti scientific. A portion may be, not all.

you ask why greens and religion contradict, well i cant speak for for everyone but in the case of christianity, there are a number of reasons.

first up there are the antics of the far far left members of the greens like lee rhinnin and john kaye who have made some discusting coments about our faith.

secondly theolagy wise the "christians" is the greens ignor the bible and even belittle some of us for wanting to act as we belief the bible says we should.

thirdly many of us feel like the greens think of us as second class people mainly from a comments saying that we shouldent let our ideals, our ethics, and our politics be effected by of faith, at all.

this isent all of it but this should give you a little to think about. i am glad that u ask over why some feel that way.

Putting someone in charge of something to rule over it is not quite the same thing as telling them to ahead and pillage and plunder until there's nothing left.  No, what this is about is divinely mandated stewardship, which is entirely compatible with the green movement.  When you have dominion over something, you also have a responsibility for its welfare.

Evidence of divinely mandated stewardship can be seen in a number of traditional Jewish and Christian practices, such as the
weekly celebration of the Sabbath and the practice (refer Deuteronomy 8:10 and Leviticus 25:3-5) of having fields lying fallow every seventh and fiftieth year.  Done in recognition of God’s gift to mankind, this had the effect of renewing the soil.
