I'm not sure you understand what the issue is here. We're not talking here about Abbott's nastiness, we are talking about implicitly condoning violence in an environment where our scientists are already receiving death threats.

oh pllllease... what absolute infantile nonsense... you do realise 'painting a target' is a METAPHOR, right??? od do the complexities of adult english confuse you?

METAPHOR. try it. understand it. you might even LIKE it.

You would have thought Abbott might have learned something from Palin's gross stupidity. Not our Tony.

We should not accept the use of violent and dangerous language from our politicians. It's not a matter of over sensitivity, it is crucial for the survival of our tolerant and peaceful society.

We get it.
Quote:
But anyone with any sense at all knows that violent language can incite actual violence, that metaphor can incite murder. At the very least, Palin added to a climate of violence.

Palin should have taken it as a warning of what might happen when a Tea Party hothead dropped a gun while heckling Giffords at an earlier Congress On Your Corner event, more than a year ago.

That did not stop Palin from declaring Giffords a "target." Giffords' district office was subsequently vandalized and the congresswoman noted that Palin had put "the cross hairs of a gun sight over our district."

"When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action," Giffords said.

Do we need to remind you how this story ended.

wow... and you seriously cannot see the massive incredibly huge difference here? I know we disagreebut Ive never thought you were stupid. But I am beginning to wonder now. IT WAS A METAPHOR used in a non-gun culture that has zero parallel to the example you gave. Actually, it made you look pretty foolish. You might want to just consider that language you apparently dont understand isnt the same as offensive language.

Well explain to me why he needed to apologise. It was the exact same metaphor Palin used. What is your point, we don't have as many gun heads in Australia so the risk is minimal. Violent language has no place in political discourse, especially in a hysterical political climate.

its wasnt violent language, you twit. If you cannot understand what a metaphor is and how it applies in real life then your opinion is pointles. you simply dont understand language,

Irrespective of how good calling me a twit makes you feel it doesn't change the nature of the metaphor. It is a metaphor of violence. In real life Abbott apologized for his stupidity, explain to me why that was necessary.

It is also a metaphor for I am targeting you for political oblivion.
