Carr starting to undermine Gillard
Mar 3rd, 2012 at 8:18pm

http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/latest/13077787/carr-tells-labor-to-stop-gab...

Incoming foreign minister Bob Carr has issued a warning to his Labor Party colleagues to stop leaking internal details to the media.

The former New South Wales premier was appointed to the role by Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Friday, after a week of speculation about whether he would be drafted in to fill Mark Arbib's vacant Senate seat.

Mr Carr replaces Kevin Rudd, who was demoted to the backbench after losing Monday's leadership ballot to Ms Gillard.

Mr Carr says while ministerial reshuffles can be brutal affairs, the practice of "gabbling" to the media has to be excised from Labor culture.

"It's always surrounded by angst and disappointment. There's no other way of doing it," he said.

"A leader has got to make choices - a leader has got to choose.

"I had to do that as leader and it left people disappointed who thought sometimes quite reasonably that they could have done a job as well as the ministers chosen.

"But in the end, the team's got to be assembled by the leader and so it has been."

Not even a Senator and he's already issuing orders. I thought Gillard was supposed to do this

Comes across as Labor still hasn't got a clue on how to handle the new news cycle.

It seems to be drowning ... on a very similar level as Abbott and his useless men (and women) are.

Good man. I knew instantly that he was a good pick for the team. An excellent pick in fact. Ten years leading a government. In the bear pit! TEN! It's not even day one yet and already he's making a mark.

TEN YEARS!

Out of curiosity, how strong was the opposition during those 10 years?

Going on my rickety memory, he won office against Nick Greiner who was no pushover himself. You're right though, the libs then went ever more into limbo. They became useless as tits on a bull. Once Carr left the infighting began. Fatty O'Barrell didn't exactly win office, he just had to stand idly by for the train wreck that was Labor to finally get to election day.

It's a shame though because good people went to waste, probably on both sides. Poor Keneally was burnt out by the end.

Jules Gilly needs a daddy figure like Carr. Poor hopless girl needs a boy, a man, an old fart to help her lead.
