We finally have a speaker who takes their job seriously.Good on him..hopefully it goes a long way to cleaning up the unprofessional rabble that occurs during question time.

by dressing up like a fool and breaking the convention of being from the government side of the house? you are from SA so you remember Peter lewis... doesnt Slipper sound very similar (arrogant, over-inflated self opinion and bordeline insane)?

Our business has quite a lot of work thanks to Peter Lewis's demands to support Ranns Labor govt so Im not about to have a go at him   Tongue
But I agree he did take the speakers position seriously and considering all the extra salary and perks they get ..so they should.

so self-interest is your sole determination of right or wrong, now? Looks like you have joined Andrei now.

NOBODY thought Peter Lewis was anything other than a mentally challenged clown. SLipper seems to be filling the same mould.

I am just stating why Im biased on the subject and why those that only make judgements on people based on the media or political slurs may just be wrong.

As popular as brussel sprouts on a kids dinner plate. Some kids will love them, some kids will just eat them because they are told to and most think they are plain awful.

So it isn't about good governance lolly? It's about being popular. That's all that is important to you?

I think great if a speaker can ake the government answer the actual questions and applaud him on principal however in this case I think the convention is to give the answerer a bit of latitude on the topic.

I think she was addressing a relivant part of the issue, I have seen much worse in this reguard.

The Gillard Government could EASILY do what's "popular"

But they have chosen to do what's RIGHT

I despise Slipper and think that he's a joke, but good on him for telling JuLIAR where to go. Every time that a Coalition MP asks a question, she just refuses to answer. Jenkins was as useless as tits on a bull in this regard.

Answering a question shouldnt be 2.5 minutes of saying what the opposition did while in power, then the remaining 1/2 a minute talking about "working families."

Question time could have twice as many questions if they bother to answer them directly.

Slipper also sat down Julie Bishop during suspension of standing orders for not being relevant and refused to let Abbott have one more question.....The fact he sat Julia Gillard down after she was not being relevant was very good for our democratic process.....Politicians on both sides act like children who need to be made to behave like adults!!!

with Jenkins the opposition were quite often not allowed more questions on the same topic..

if Julia is been told to get on with it.. it will be a first thats for sure..

I dont have any problems with any of them being to to get on with answering the question..

of course you have dna... it doesnt mean it right or we have to put up with it...

we have been screaming since forever for this lot to answer a question... it isnt new or something slipper discovered..

I find iut rude and bad mannered to be honest.

they are asked a question they know its coming.. why not answer it......is it because they cant?...

btw when their own side ask a question I get up and go and potter till the boring bits over.
