Telstra release NBN price - farcical
Feb 27th, 2012 at 10:08pm

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/business/a/-/national/13030294/telstra-releases...

Entry level NBN plans starts at $49.95 a month for 50 gigabytes (GB) of data delivered with a download speed of 25 megabits per second (Mbps), rising to $89.95 for 500 GB.

For those who wish to have a download speed of 100Mbps, plans start from $59.95 a month for 50 GB of data, to $99.95 for 500 GB.

The release of Telstra's NBN plans also coincided with an update of the telco's broadband retail offering more generally, with new bundled plans featuring more generous download allowances and inclusions.

Telstra chief customer officer Gordon Ballantyne said a dedicated call centre had been set up to manage customer inquiries, while 5,000 technicians were on standby to help customers connect to the new service.

The NBN plans will be available to those living in the five Australian mainland first release NBN sites - Armidale and Kiama Downs (NSW), Townsville (Queensland), Brunswick (Victoria) and Willunga (South Australia).

Other internet service providers currently offering NBN retail internet plans included Optus and iinet.

So exactly what are they supposed to achieve with the extra download speed in these areas that they can't achieve now other than download porn alot faster?

And for what?

So your argument that the NBN would drive prices through the roof has been thoroughly disproven and now you're looking to dig up a quite frankly pathetic new argument to put against it.

Here's an answer:
IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
what people would "need" those speeds for.

well from my stand point... nothing is what it seems..and nothing stays that way for long...

I am still waiting to hear what difference it has made to peoples lives, that have connected already..I would have thought we would have had some feedback by now

for $40bn it needs to make a HUGE difference.

This article says NBN will be expensive

Telstra has released its prices for the high speed National Broadband Network.

The company says its home phone and broadband connections go on sale tomorrow at $80 a month for a two-year contract with downloads of up to five gigabytes.

Customers will pay up to $150 a month for a two-year contract with downloads of up to 500 gigabytes.

Telstra's customers must keep renting their existing phone line if they want a telephone service in an area where the NBN has not been connected yet.

What a rip off compared to how fast and how much we download today

Appears dam close to exactly what they market right now. So as an opening price all one can see is the price of the NBN network being an absolute bargin in the future. When the network is built and all the telco's are on an even footing for their wholesale it will get good for the consumer.

There's a development for you, folks: LW has 50 billion dollars in the bank with which he's paying for the NBN all by himself. How generous of him.

We have the free right to use radio communications and they cant charge us or tax us for that - I and family and friends use hand held UHF and 10 meter Hams to communicate and also 27mhz CB Radio and they cant do anything about it or rip money off us for it...

....."Considerably more"....?

You do realise the NBN is pushing the current benchmark for mainstream Internet speeds right?
