Well boo hoo for the nurses... NSW Labor Govt bought in Teachers aides into NSW schools years ago....... so instead of hiring teachers we were given aides. Some schools have more aides than teachers now.....

So once again I say boo hoo to the nurses.
In NSW if you are a teacher and you get an aide, not only do you have to program for the class children but you have to organise the aide as well for NO extra money!!!!!
                  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

NSW Teachers need to be accountable for the huge wages they collect. This includes 4 weeks annual leave, 8 weeks non attendance prep time, 5 student free days and 2 half days per week release from face to face. Then when given teachers aides in class complain about the help and say they don't have the time, please give it a break.

All teachers should be assessed in class every month and be on development programs and performance contracts. They should be dismissible from teaching for poor performance and accountable for student results. then i will agree to performance based wage increases that reflect outcomes, not pathetic teachers hiding behind children as a defence to their own inadequacies. Their would be few teachers in NSW on under $85 000 p/a with next to no accountability and they wonder why parents are sick of their strikes for more money

A lot of teacher’s aids are very competent and a lot of teachers are not.

They don't want to fix their system. They just want money in their pockets to they can get pissed on their days off and sit out in those smoko areas ...working in the Health Industry n' all Roll Eyes

I think on an SBS Forum the 3 big Australian Medical Pros that were consulted mentioned that "We don't need the money -  its about effective Policies that work."
...also
"Australia has 2/3rds more 'paperwork' than most other nations." by a head UK Nurse or Doctor.

Ahh yes - An Australian Medical System that follows two nations more apt at winning Wars - just because they speak the same language ...now that wouldn't be a 'political' thing now would it? Huh Roll Eyes

Before everyone starts putting on the rose coloured glasses and thinking that Labor wouldn't do such a thing.

I seem to remember a certain Bob Hawke bringing in overseas pilots and even using the R.A.A.F. to smash the pilot's dispute years ago.

The working person will always be the one to may for the mistakes of any Party in Power. Thus it has been since time immemorial.

Don't get me wrong. It is hard work.
Dealing with people who don't take their health seriously in the Public, where legalities and religion seem like more of a priority with lawsuits  Roll Eyes
Dealing with the nice Doctors and Patients in the Private, but the greedy Administration and general staff leave a lot to be desired.  Angry

More nurses to strike
John Elder
February 26, 2012

NURSES have warned that any attempt by the state government to fine them over strike action will ''only strengthen their resolve''.   Smiley

Tomorrow, nurses will add three more hospitals - Maroondah, Ballarat and St Vincent's - to their roster of four-hour stoppages, taking to nine the hospitals affected.

Lisa Fitzpatrick, secretary of the Victorian branch of the Australian Nurses Federation, said nurses at every hospital in the state would be on strike by early next month if the Baillieu government refused to negotiate on nurse-patient ratios.   Shocked

As more than 2000 nurses walked off the job at Royal Melbourne, Dandenong, Western, Frankston, Geelong and Northern hospitals yesterday, Ms Fitzpatrick said she expected the government's lawyers to be applying to the Federal Court for orders to allow individual fines of up to $6000.

She said the union would continue to add three hospitals a day to its strike campaign until Premier Ted Baillieu agreed to go to Fair Work Australia to resolve the dispute. FWA has ruled the strike action illegal.

Hospitals scale back staff on weekends but with the strike affecting more hospitals, the scale of the action is set to grow dramatically this week.   Wink

Ms Fitzpatrick said nurses were still keeping staff at safe levels and that midwives at Frankston with in-labour patients did not walk out.

A government spokesman denied going to the Federal Court yesterday, but said court action had not been ruled out. That option remained open if the ANF continued to defy FWA.

nairbe    My daughter is a teacher in the NSW Public system. Let me tell you something about her 'huge'
payslip'.  It is rare that my daughter or any other teacher for that matter would works less than  a 50 hour week. Sometimes she works until the early hours of the morning to keep up with the enormous workload that is thrust on her, in these days where the 'teacher' is apparently responsible for everything in regard to a child's life as working parents abandon abandon their responsibilities to  THE TEACHER.

The amount of preparation and work at home, plus after school meetings places an  enormous workload on the teachers.

They are expected to be teacher, psychologist, social workers, disciplinarians, nurses and God know what else.  Oh yes and babysitters.

Our school teachers are grossly UNDERPAID if you really look at what they do you moron.

Ja Signature....I have just looked up the pay scales for Nurses in the Victorian system.

Year 1 weekly rate $851.30 to year 10 $1127.00 per week.

The Highest Grade Registered Nurse Grade 4B $1368.60 per week.

Weekend penalties can attract anything from $42 to $67 per shift. Depending on pay scale.

I see no evidence of rates at $100 per hour anywhere.

Nurses to stop work
Craig Butt
February 27, 2012

NURSES at 12 hospitals across Victoria will stop work twice a day to protest against attacks on nurse-patient ratios.   Huh

Starting today, the stoppages will last up to four hours and will occur about 8am and 5.30pm every day, according to the Australian Nursing Federation.

Austin Hospital, Bendigo Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, Maroondah Hospital, Ballarat Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital, Frankston Hospital, Geelong Hospital, the Northern Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Dandenong Hospital and Western Hospital are all taking part in the stoppages.    Smiley

Three additional metropolitan or rural hospitals are also slated to join the protest every day until the dispute is resolved.

Australian Nursing Federation Victorian branch secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick yesterday said resolving the dispute should be one of Premier Ted Baillieu's top priorities.   Wink

"Resolving this dispute and restoring confidence in Victoria's public hospitals must be at the top of Mr Baillieu's return from India to-do list," Ms Fitzpatrick said.

"Mr Baillieu can end this now by agreeing to a senior tribunal member from Fair Work Australia resolving all of the issues including ratios."   Wink

It has been more than three months since Fair Work Australia talks began between the two parties.

Stoppages started at nine hospitals across Victoria yesterday, with over 1000 nurses taking part, according to the union.

Health Minister David Davis criticised the action as "dangerous and unprotected", saying it was putting public hospital patients at risk.

"Patients should never be used as pawns in industrial negotiations," Mr Davis said.

Bid to stop walkouts by nurses
Kate Hagan
February 28, 2012

VICTORIAN hospitals today will seek an urgent order in the Federal Court for nurses to stop industrial action.

The move comes after more than 1000 nurses walked out of 12 hospitals yesterday in a bid to pressure the Baillieu government to agree to a process to settle their long-running dispute over pay and conditions.

Nurses today enter their fifth day of action to reduce staffing to night-shift levels for up to four hours on morning and afternoon shifts, which the government says has led to 76 operations being cancelled.

Health Minister David Davis described the impact on patients whose surgery was cancelled as cruel.

The action began at three hospitals on Friday, and the Australian Nursing Federation has warned it will extend to three more hospitals each day until the government agrees to have an independent umpire decide all unresolved issues in their dispute, including nurse-patient ratios.   Wink

Victorian Hospitals Industrial Association chief executive Alec Djoneff said he would respond to the independent umpire proposal today.

Nurses at The Alfred, Sunshine and Latrobe Regional hospitals will today join the walkouts, which have gone ahead despite an order by Fair Work Australia on Friday for them to stop.

Nurses would risk individual fines of up to $6600 and up to $33,000 for the union if they breached a Federal Court order.   Sad

Mr Davis said 14 of the operations cancelled on Friday and yesterday had been for the most urgent category of patients, including for cancer patients.

''We will not let the ANF hold patients to ransom,'' he said.

''[The action is] clearly targeted to have the maximum cruel impact on individual patients. It is not a matter for union officials to be deciding who gets their surgery and who doesn't.''

The minister's comments came after Western Health director of surgical services Trevor Jones expressed concern about the cancellation of surgery for three cancer patients yesterday morning.

''I am upset … it's just not on,'' Associate Professor Jones told Fairfax Radio.

''I sympathise with the nurses, don't get me wrong. There must be easier ways of solving the problem than this, and in fact they're taking it out on the patients.

''I'm sorry, you can't dress it up any other way.''

Australian Nurses Federation state secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said one of the Western Hospital patients ended up having surgery later in the day, and the other two patients were due to have their operations tomorrow. She said 9500 fewer patients would receive surgery this year compared with 2011-12 because of government cuts.   Sad

''There is a much bigger picture here that he [Mr Davis] should be concerned about as the Health Minister,'' she said.

''We've been negotiating trying to get an agreement for eight months … the ceasing of the action only depends on him agreeing to go to an independent umpire.''   Wink

Nurses, who are seeking an 18.5 per cent pay rise over three years and eight months, retain their current conditions until a new deal is struck.

The government is offering a 2.5 per cent annual rise, with any further increases to be offset by productivity measures, which include flexibility on ratios and the introduction of lesser-paid health assistants.

When I had to fill in for Security (as a Nurse), the pay slips were left on the desk so to speak - open. Not everyone got paid $100 per hour ...but many did.

Of course the Nurses who just started out would make that amount straight-up.

Throw in a job that gives potential to do overtime, double-shifts and all those penalty rates. Wink
