So why did you call me a lady?
Does being a hommer make you less of a man?

It's a commonly used phrase that comes from Shakespeare's Hamlet. It's a direct quote, therefore ,"lady" is used for both sexes.

The phrase has come to mean that one can "insist so passionately about something not being true that people suspect the opposite of what one is saying."

It's always used in that form.  Never "The man doth protest too much, methinks".  That wouldn't be a direct quote.

I have no idea what a "hommer" is.

Did you mean Hummer?

As someone who did a SignCraft course on behlaf of his 'Flag Designs' years ago and can honestly say "He designed 'the' Flag of the future (for a while)."

1. The Australian Flag is the property of the UK. It is Crown property ...as is still a lot of land, etc. You want the Flag, you buy it!
2. For all those 'Aussies' who go on about "their father's having fought under the Flag" when Peter Fitzsimmons (author of Tobruk, Gallipoli, etc) has proved such as rubbish.
3. A future Australian Flag is not just for Australians, it is also an expression of 'Art' that brings meaning and plays its part in the grand scheme of things for the Rest of the World as well. We are all in it together.
4. For 'Westernised' Aussies who think they are deserving of 'high and mighty' compared to 'The West (USA)' - I suggest you go to the USA or just shut up and shop. Annie is right - the Flag can be used as Toilet paper and Kangaroo and Emu should be eaten as they are better quality meat compared to the C-grade Lamb that is flogged to us on 'an' Australia Day.
5. Is it really about the Flag burning, or is it about a 'type' of Aboriginal that has become 'politicised' and reflects what 'political' Australia, especially at Federal Level, has become?
6. Not all Aboriginals agree with the 'Koori' Flag.
7. I'm sure there's more... Wink

I'm well aware of the quote, and well aware that it could have been adapted had you not intended to   call me a lady.

Careful, your double standards are showing.  You can't defned homosexuality as 'normal' and 'equal' and then turn around and use it a slur.

No double standards at all.

I used the direct quote, as it is intended.

And now, I feel I need to reiterate:

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

I have no problem with your sexuality.  However, I must decline your previous advances as I don't bat for the other team.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It is intended to refer to a female.

Are homosexual men females in your eyes, meat?

No, it's a unisex phrase.

No.  They're people in my eyes.

However, if you wish to identify as a female I'm ok with that.

Whatever makes you (and your partner) happy.  I'm not about to rock your boat.

the lady doth protest too much, methinks.

How do you sleep at night, being such a shameless liar?  IF it wasn't intended as a slur on the "manliness" of homsexual men, you could have just done what your own link says:

Quote:
The phrase is often misquoted as "Methinks the lady doth protest too much."[2] and is commonly used in the second person as "Methinks thou dost protest too much."

What's happened to the world these days???

We used to call people spades, queers, pakis and everyone took it in good humour and went on with their business.

I mean the guest house in my gran's street in the UK used to say "No blacks, dogs or Irish" and nobody thought any more of it.

Now you can't even make a small comment without everyone taking offence.

Now we've got people claiming "stress", "depression" off work etc.

Fking hell. What's gone wrong with the world??
