ON AUSSIE FLAG BURNING
Feb 17th, 2012 at 8:29am

I have been sent this post on the Net about the Aboriginals burning the Australian Flag. I couldn't agree more with its contents...The Red Baron

I wasn't going to comment on this, but it's burning me up... now to the indigenous people of Australia , I understand how you feel. I know why the tent embassy is there, and know about your wishes for a Sovereign Treaty. I am sure the vast majority of indigenous Australians that I know will agree with what I am about to say, but If I offend you, you may as well delete me, because I am far from finished.

The Australian Government has publicly acknowledged your rights to the land. They said sorry, and you accepted that apology. Tony Abbott was right. It's time to move on. Your wishes for a Sovereign Treaty will not be granted. They are all based on MONEY. You want all the rights to all the land that will make you money. The government bends over backwards, providing indigenous Australians additional welfare, funding, housing etc etc etc. This money comes from taxes, provided by working Australians, and big business, most of whom use that land you want to be paid for, so you can sit on your arses and do nothing. It's just not going to happen.

We cannot change the past, and for the past, we have apologised, but we can change the future, and promote racial understanding. What a small group of indigenous Australians did on Australia day was outrageous. To burn the flag on the steps of parliament was an act of desecration, and probably the most racially offensive and unpatriotic act I have seen in this country. You have put racial understanding back 100 years in this country, and only you are responsible for the retaliation this will bring from an outraged country. Not to mention how you treated the Prime Minister, despite her party being responsible for tipping off your demonstration.

While it might not mean much to some people in this country, that flag represents the very soul of who I am, and what I believe in. I wear that flag on my uniform every day. I fly that flag when I go overseas to defend this country's freedom. I have draped that flag over a mate’s coffin, and presented that flag to the mourning family of a fallen comrade. You people are not Australian, and if I see someone burning my flag, and I am close enough, I will stomp your guts into the ground. If you are not prepared to accept this country the way it is, accept our apologies for something the current generation was not responsible for, and embrace a multicultural society, one which Australia was built on 200 years ago, then pack your bags, and go find another country where you can take handouts, complain you are hard done by, and burn their flag. Because you are not welcome here while I am defending your rights, and paying taxes to support your welfare. GTF OUT.

in a rare moment of balance and reason ...

Flag burning not criminal, says PM

January 27, 2006

Burning the Australian flag was offensive but should not be made a criminal offence
, Prime Minister John Howard said today.

Mr Howard said the burning of the Australian flag by Aboriginal protesters in Brisbane yesterday was offensive but
was not indicative of mainstream indigenous opinion
.

"It was offensive," he told Southern Cross Broadcasting.

"I don't think it represents mainstream Aboriginal opinion."

But he said it should not be made a criminal offence because it was an expression of political opinion.

"Much as all I despise what they did I do not believe it should be a criminal offence"
he said.

"I see that kind of thing as
just as expression
, however offensive to the majority of the Australian community
, an expression of political opinion
"

"
I do not think we achieve anything by making it a criminal offence
- we only turn yahoo behaviour into martyrdom."

He said it would not engender greater respect for the Australian flag which was already greatly respected by Australian people.

Considering Indigenous Australians were here about 60,000 years before our generous liberation, perhaps your friend and anyone else who thinks like you should be the ones to get out.

People wear the flag, lie on it at the beach and use it to dry their filthy bodies and their dishes. They step on it when it's disguised as a pair of thongs and have it made into bikinis and underwear.

All in the name of national pride, of course.

Yet when a couple of Indigenous Australians burn something that symbolises oppression for them, everyone's up in arms.

LOL.  I don't think Mr Howard had met too many abos when he said this.

But I do agree with the rest - it's offensive, but we don't need another law to handle it.  i think a better solution would be for "the law" to look the other way, and allow the offended party to let their disgust be felt.

What about these lefty laws where you are now banned form offending anyone ? Don't they apply here.
I am offended, it was intended to offend.

Quote:
"It's the Soldier"
By: Charles M. Province

A protest raged on a courthouse lawn,
Round a makeshift stage they charged on,
Fifteen hundred or more they say,
Had come to burn a Flag that day.
A boy held up the folded Flag,
Cursed it, and called it a dirty rag.
An OLD MAN pushed through the angry crowd,
With a rusty shotgun shouldered proud.

His uniform jacket was old and tight,
He had polished each button, shiny and bright.
He crossed that stage with a soldier's grace,
Until he and the boy stood face to face.

"FREEDOM OF SPEECH", the OLD MAN said,
"Is worth dying for, good men are dead,
So you can stand on this courthouse lawn,
And talk us down from dusk to dawn,
But before any Flag gets burned today,
This OLD MAN IS GOING TO HAVE HIS SAY!!

My father died on a foreign shore,
In a war they said would end all war.
But Tommy and I wasn't even full grown,
Before we fought in a war of our own.
And Tommy died on Iwo Jima's beach,
In the shadow of a hill he couldn't quite reach
Where five good men raised this Flag so high,
That the WHOLE WORLD COULD SEE IT FLY.

I got this bum leg that I still drag,
Fighting for this same old Flag.
Now there's but one shot in this old gun,
So now it's time to decide which one,
Which one of you will follow our lead,
To stand and die for what you believe?
For as sure as there is a rising sun,
You'll burn before this Flag burns, son.

Now this riot never came to pass.
The crowd got quiet and that can of gas,
Got set aside as they walked away
To talk about what they had heard this day.
And the boy who had called it a "dirty rag",
Handed the OLD SOLDIER the folded Flag.

So the battle of the Flag this day was won
By a tired OLD SOLDIER with a rusty gun,
Who for one last time, had to show to some,
THIS FLAG MAY FADE, YET THESE COLORS DON'T RUN

The flag is never a 'something' to those of us who have served.

I DON'T think it ever recovered from THIS trauma

...

I feel more for THIS flag ...

...

... (and all that it STANDS for) which pre-dates our British flag, by 50 years

( ... the recently restored ORIGINAL, now hangs in all it's glory in the Art Gallery of Ballarat)

What a load of utter nonsense.

" ... and I am close enough, I will stomp your guts into the ground."

Advocating physical violence now?  Lovely.

While we're on the subject of flag waving idiocy:

"People who fly Australian flags on their cars have more racist views than the rest of the population, a new study has found.

"Many flag flyers also support the now-defunct White Australia Policy and are afraid the Australian culture is under threat, researchers from the University of Western Australia say."

Evolution is based on what provides one with the best odds of survival.  Physical weakness, and an aversion to the use of effective means available to you, actually count against your chances of survival.  Evolution isn't just a buzz word mate.  Nor does it happen like it does in Pokemon.

If you commit an act that has NO other purpose than to offend, it's pretty weak to then have a sook when you get some come-uppance.

A flag represents the "soul of who I am"?

This fellow is clearly a post-modernist.
