Let’s take a quick flashback to August 2010 and the furious negotiations from Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott for the essential votes of the four independents and the Australian Greens, who would effectively choose which party would govern Australia. History of course, records that Julia Gillard’s negotiations were stunningly successful and she was able to form a fragile coalition government.

Many from both sides were secretly impressed with the way she managed to sway the votes of MPs whose electorates demonstrably wanted the opposite result.  Gillard was reputed to be an excellent negotiator and these skills were amply demonstrated. Now of course, we know what her secret ingredient is to successful negotiation.

LIE.

Tony Abbott never had a chance in his negotiations with the independents because, in the back of his mind, he had to consider how to keep his promises and that will always restrain an ethical negotiator. He couldn’t and wouldn’t promise more than he could deliver. Gillard however, was not at all constrained by such inconveniences.

Having already campaigned on a ‘no carbon tax’ platform, she broke her promise with the Australian electorate by secretly promising the Greens such a tax, in return for their single lower house vote and nine senators. The speed with which she did so - just days after the election - makes John Howard’s ‘non-core promise’ gaffe look like amateur hour. Gillard had quickly shown that she had NO core promises at all. Everything was negotiable, as long as honesty and integrity were to be excluded.

Andrew Wilkie was promised his no-pokies legislation and supported Labor in return. Of course, that promise was shredded, just like so many others. The Greens were promised substantial logging restrictions in Tasmania. Gillard ‘changed her mind’, presumably because there were political complications and no advantage to her.

Kevin Rudd has reason to be upset because all the time his supposedly loyal deputy was publicly declaring her unwavering support, she was going behind his back preparing to stab him. Weeks before Wilkie was shafted, Gillard phoned him to confirm her support for his legislation. There is a pattern developing here! A pattern, not just of broken promises, but blatant lies and deceit.

Gillard’s position as Prime Minister is becoming increasingly unstable, not because of her parlous polls, but because of her personal integrity and the fact that she has so little of it. No promise she makes, no commitment she enters into has any value any more. More than any Prime Minister before her, her word is worthless.

Be it the Private Health changes, the Carbon Tax or the pokies legislation, her promises are meaningless and her word not even worth repeating.

Politicians often lie. It is unfortunately sometimes part of the process. But Julia Gillard lies almost all of the time. It seems that even when she tells the truth, the only reason is that it is to her advantage.

There has never been a more self-serving, deceitful and morally-bankrupt Prime Minister than the one that currently sullies that great office. She is a disgrace and for that reason alone, the Labor party must remove her and install someone whose word might actually mean something.

that is only said by a handful of wusses and wimps. Howard is rightly accorded his place as australias MOST POPULAR PM. Gillard could end up near the bottom of the pile vying for last place with McMahon.

Gillards negotiating skills are the same as the Italians surrendering skills in WW2.

So you believe 100% Wilkie would have got his billion???

Abbott negotiated as hard as Gillard & would have gone back on his word just as quick if not faster had he pulled off the speaker as Gillard did, not that I think he would have been capable of doing that.

Talk him up all you want but he will be & is just as hopeless as Gillard is, no actually more so, Gillard can at least get the parliament working I doubt Tony would be able to achieve that.
