ANZ announces another 1,000 jobs to go today
Feb 13th, 2012 at 1:24pm

The ANZ Bank today announced another 1,000 jobs to go by September. Several hundred of these jobs will go to overseas call centres.

No doubt this will bring Wayne Swan and our erudite Prime Minister Gillard out, wringing their hands with angst.

Their collective failure to address the Banks issue is now a major national issue. This morning it was also announced by major banks Westpac and the Commonwealth Bank that they are looking at further rate increases.

The banks are totally out of control and there is no forensic evidence whatsoever to support these gambits that they are taking, save avarice. The greed of the Banks has control to the stage they they are wielding their power like a drunken dictator.

It is half past midnight and our leaders do nothing. It is high time for bank customers to ditch these bastards and take their business to the credit unions. I have.

It wouldn't hurt if you feel the same way to send a message to the P.M. If enough people get the jungle drums pounding perhaps they will realise that the next Neilsen Poll will bury them alive. (Pollies don't like bad poll results no matter what they say on air)

Send these arseholes a message!

The banks need to be re-regulated immediately.

No cop-outs, no excuses.

DO it, Swan. Now.

NO business should be allowed to shed staff while posting such obscene profits.

And yet no super profits tax for the banks...

I have just written to Wayne Swan. If you google him, it will lead you to his contact for an online mail direct to the Treasury.

Here's your chance to stick it to the banks, where it will do the most good.

Good hunting!

I really have no idea why Australians keep giving their business to the big 4 banks, while those banks continue to screw them.

I haven't had a bank account for a decade. Instead, I'm with a credit union.
All their workers are in Australia. Most of them know me by name. They are friendly and helpful.
My mortgage rate is about a percent less than any of the big four banks, while my savings account pays 4.5% interest! Even their Visa card (which I don't have) is only 10.5% interest.
There are no account keeping fees whatsoever. There are no fees for early payouts, or for mortgage redraws or for Rediteller ATM or over-the-counter transactions. Internet and phone banking is free. Even their counter cheques are free.

My move to the CU began 20 years ago when my then bank started charging me a fee to transfer my monthly car loan repayment from my savings account to my loan account. I had a CU account at the time, and enquired whether they could transfer the money instead. Alas, this was before DD was commonplace. "No problem", the friendly CU girl said. "We can draw a counter cheque each month, and walk across the road to the bank and deposit it into your loan account for you. For free."

I kid you not.

Sick of the banks? Joint a credit union or building society. As a shareholder and customer, they exist to benefit you.
