Life imprisonment with no chance of parole is hardly a weak solution.
Although that option may not exist now, there's nothing stopping it from being introduced in the future. For extreme cases, I would certainly advocate its use.

The death penalty doesn't exist in this country, and it never will.
Captial punishment is a "weak solution" (i.e. it's just an easy way out for weak people).
Resorting to violence is no way to solve problems. State-sanctioned killing is quite simply an outdated, barbaric practice that has no place in a civilised country like Australia.
